could it be that the sd5401 is damaged and the red is out.
there is no internal video and no external.
cranking the drive and g2 makes the raster light faintly.

swapping video cables from red to green on the vim makes the red light so it is the vim.

i was putting a hdmi cable from the ps3 in the vim while the vim was connected with the extension card, after that red went out Sad.

The question is have you lost video or gain/drive on red. Can you test at test pins TP14, TP15 and TP16 for gain control?

When using the extension card do you have anything under the vim to isolate it from the chassis? if not you might have shorted something out. and that could be anything!!

And do as mac advises to narrow down which function is lost.

to get back on this.... my vim wasn`t broken!

because of the numerous times i took out the vim and put it back in, the connector on the motherboard is damaged so i sometimes do not have a red channel.

upon reinserting (sometimes this takes a couple times) the red is back.

how hard is it to get to the soldering points of the connector where the vim goes?

Actually it's pretty close.

To get at the backplane, the whole set needs to come apart. Literally.

Do it, it's good exercise. Very Happy

I've done it twice.

I've done the tear down before and had no screws left, i actually needed to find two more, some must have been missing.
