Hello
Vector/calligraphic units, some also do rasters mixed in between vector frames, for flight simulator. Way expensive $250K+
.

Sheesh I thought those tubes were like the big ol 12 inchers in the Barco. Suprised they are only 9" tubes. Wonder what kind of rez these things run.

VDC took over the E&S raster calligraphic projection line. (ESCP model) I don't know if Tse will know anything about a VECTOR calligraphic machine, though.
I can't even say for sure if the lenses will mount in place of an HD-10 series lens, but they MIGHT. If they're optically compatible
with HD-10 optic systems, then the lenses are sure to be very fine.
The ESCP uses the same 9" CRTs that Marquees use, or they can. I believe VDC equips ESCPs with P19LUGs.

Maybe if your "home theater" has 12-foot ceilings, 220v power, dedicated air conditioning, and seating for 15. I don't think you realize how big that thing is...
In fact, unless the perspective is throwing me off, those lenses look much bigger than HD-10's of any flavor.

Dont forget that the electronics in these thing are for displaying vector-calligraphic signals. So unless you plan to use it for old vector based arcade games, it would be pretty useless to anyone. The tubes are probably useable though.

I just got back from San Antonio to look at these things.  
Having seen these at VDC, the comments are pretty accurate. It makes a good space heater and it is huge. I doubt there is any way to hang one on the ceiling and who would want to try. Scott could comment on if it could be made to work for HT, but I wouldn't put a lot of faith in being able to do it.

I understand a bit about the ESCP RASTER calligraphic projectors, which CAN be used for conventional video and thus could be used in a home theater application, but I don't have any idea about whether or not a VECTOR calligraphic projector would be of any use in a home theater.
I do know that thee ESCP has three linear Class A amplifiers for driving the deflection circuits. They draw about 1000 watts of power each,
so the total power budget for an ESCP is probably at least 4 kilowatts.
The power amplifier packs might make very good audio amplifiers with some adaptation.

Video projectors that is. Single 7" tube, gen 1 and 2, at least.
Indeed this is an E+S raster-caligraphic projector. VDC acquired the CRT projector assets years ago. The complete simulation business was sold off a few years ago, but E+S kept the ESLP (Laser Projector), exclusively licensing it to its former division for simulation and virtualisation, but keeping it for other application. The ESLP GLV projector has been shown at Infocomm the past few years, in its second generation, said to be around the $500K a piece.

Go find an old Asteroids video game as a source, and have one hell of a shootout. Sadly I think that's the only video game that was based on vector graphics.

from memory alone. All vector graphics. Some monochrome, some in color.

haha ive seen a billion sets of those... def old flight simulator pjs... def not home theater material. dim as all hell...
i know a company that upgrades those and put LUGs in them...

Hm. I would have sworn Tempest was raster-based. I remember thinking it was strange that they just drew outlines with a raster display. But Wikipedia agrees with you.
