|
|
I heard a small arc in my Barco 1209 last night while the PJ was warming up, picture collapsed momentarily, then when I went to watch a movie I noticed the focus seemed a bit soft. I checked the focus in the adjustment menu when focusing the green it would not snap into the crisp focus I was used to. The red and blue seemed ok. Of course the green is the most critical.
What I suspect is that the high voltage is not up where it should be. I seem to recall when I replaced the high voltage transformer box on my 1208 that there were 3 separate leads, one for each tube, coming off it. I thought about switching them around to see if this is the part that failed (possibly one of the diodes inside).
1 - How long after power down does the voltage last? I suspect that a few minutes would be enough but given the voltages here I prefer to be more sure.
2 - Does this seem like the likely source of the problem...suggestions?
Thanks
Barry

Wrong guesstimate.
THE HV drives all three tubes equally, so if one is out of focus, they all would be out. This is related to the green tube only. If the center focus control has no effect, the HV arc may have damaged the focus/H shift board.

Thanks Curt....
I assume by your comment, since I haven't started digging through schematics, that the focus/H shift board is a single board for all RGB and not separates. I wonder if it is possible to interchange with the 1208/2 focus/H shift board since I have one of those in my 1208/2. The 1209 is a 1209/2. If so that would be a quick diagnostic. If the damage is not readily visible do you do board repairs? If I did the swap is there a lot of adjustment required afterward on the board it self?
Thanks,
Barry

Curt,
I dug out my schematics and I think sometime back I tried swapping the big assembly that has the focus and H shift on it between PJs w/o success. I had actually lost HV and was trying to see what was causing the lack of raster. Later you analysed it as the HV transformer which you sold me. So I don't think that swap will work even for quick diagnostics. However, in looking at the 1208 I see the focus coils pluggin into the mother board with green adjacent to red. I could swap the focus coil OPs to see if that had an effect. Does that seem a valid approach?
