|
|
I'm looking at 9500LC ultra projectors and comparing the lens choices.
In the user manual (I know it's just a starting place that tends to "overestimate" throw distance) the minimum screen width recommended starts at 78" for HD10E lenses and a minimum screen width of 91" for HD10 GT17 lenses.
Would I have focus or other problems using either lenses in a 9500LC ultra projecting on a screen that is only 72" wide?
Thanks,
James

I have a 9500 with gt17's on a 71" wide screen and it's slightly soft. I'm on the bottom of the focus range with only about a 1/16 of an inch of adjustment left

The GT-17 is a great lens... Can you afford a larger screen ?

I saw the HD10L's were recommended for screens up to 71". I wonder how hard it would be to find a set of HD10L's?
It's odd that the reference table in the manual has a gap between 72" and 77" screen widths. That's why I'm glad to get feedback from people here with real world experience.

That's one of the things I was worried about. Can I ask trebortaergeht, what is your throw distance?

I can afford to buy a bigger screen, but I wouldn't have room for it.
My current screen is electric and mounted above the ceiling. I may be able to expand a few inches when I upgrade from a 4:3 screen to a 16:9 screen. Due to the layout of the room the absolute maximum width for the viewable area on a new screen would be 84".
Right now I have a Marquee 8000 that drops down from the ceiling using a SRS-4 lift. Luckily, when I set this up years ago I installed the lift on a steel track so it won't be too difficult to move the whole business to adjust the throw distance between 90" and 110".
Thanks for your feedback and suggestions,
James

My 9500/V1 had GT 17's and I was using a 72" screen...I was getting close to the end of adjustment..but was by no means bottoming out...
I also set one up on a 69" screen once...still not bottomed out...
But I will say I liked to use every bit of my phosphor width...so my units (and on my customers installations) were always mounted real close...and opened out...
When Henry (a few years ago now) ordered a brand new 9500 Ultra for himself...Brian and Nathan (VDC) insisted he didnt have GT17's...but instead almost insisted he chose HD 10E...when the unit was nice and run in...a few hundred hours...we spent 'Hours' swapping lens..to see if we could prove/debug any myths...
We could see NO perecptable difference between the 10E and the 17 on his 80" screen...10L's however are not great...they are not quite as sharp in the centre...and even less sharp around the screen border.
