Hey guys,
I have my BluRay cabinet in the theater setup with some nice blue led lighting and want to have a relay on it's power supply that will switch those lights off when the projector is turned on. All i need is a 12V (or 5V even) signal from the projector when i turn it on ... where can i source such a thing? Tap into the fan connections? What about the Remote OUT port on the back?

Yes, you can use the 5/12V trigger - but you should use a relay between your LED power source and the lighting, and fuse all + (positive) lines going to the relay.

Hey mate, thanks for that. My issue is that the 1272 doesn't seem to have a "12v trigger" output on it. Hence why i need to know where i can source one from! And yup will be triggering a relay and all fused of course.

If the remote port is a Control-S jack, check the manual to see if this connector supports running the remote wired without batteries - this should indicate one of the pins (usually 4-pin) has power. To determine which pin carries power, you'll need the service manual or VOM.
You can of course take power from the fans, but this would be my last resort.
Xantech makes a number of senors for AC power, LEDs, etc. that can trigger a relay. These are more expensive options but make for a more professional install, IMHO.

Yeah i saw a few posts here about AC switching. Makes sense to do that, but just a matter of finding ones here in Australia. I haven't come across any to be honest.
The remote-S port definitely supports a wired remote. So one of those connections would have power on it ? It's a 3.5mm mono jack from memory. So only 2 connections. There's also this multi pin remote output i think, and the RS serial port too. All i need is a source of 12v or 5v or anything less than 12 i can use a 7805 reg.

Ok so I found a place that had a powerboard that had "master" and "slave" sockets. When you turn on the device in the master socket, it switches on the devices in the slave sockets. The board works fine, however, the "standby" current for the Sony CRT must be higher than it's 30W trigger current, since the devices were all being turned on when the projector was put into Standby mode (just turning the main switch on). So gotta find a power source in the projector i think!
