Amazon's definitely messed up. Click on "3 new from $39.99" and the other prices are $1299.95 and $4999.95 !!
But Target will let you put the $39.99 PS3 in your cart. I'm seriously tempted to give it a try, except I'm afraid they'd try to charge me the normal price and I don't want the hassle. Plus this is the old 60GB version, not a slim. I doubt they even have them.

I am wondering where you have seen a definite debunking? I see many posts saying both that it is real and a bait and switch.
