|
|
So I have always wanted a Marquee projector and when I saw some go up for grabs I couldn't resist.
Picked-up one last week that was supposed to be fully functional with good tubes. Got it home and Bam! only the Red was good. No biggie as I was picking up the other the following week.
So I am not paying attention when we loaded the other one up today as I just wanted to get home. Thing looked like a mess and there are parts in boxes etc. No big deal I know what they are and where they go. As we were loading it up I was thinking damn this thing feels heavier then the last one. So my wife and I are driving home when I looked back and said to myself those are odd looking lenses on this 8500.Wait they are HD10's. I said Oh, sh*t! I think I just got myself and 8500LC for $100.
Just wanted to share that story with you all as I am a happy camper at the moment.
I will be in contact with Nash for a set of bellows because these are saturated. I will also get the tube assemblies out ASAP to prevent damage to anything for that exact reason.
Then all I need to try to find is the infamous Red C element and a nice green tube ( In negotiations now for a tube) to round out a screaming deal in my mind. that is Unless I can score a set of 9" tubes in decent shape.
Have some thinking to do I guess.....
James

They were built in my home town. A friends mom still works there and her signature dawns all the user manuals front page.
All the sheet metal has 1996 stamped on it and it was a factory Acon unit so it is actually an 8501 so I doubt it is an Ultra.
Sort of a childhood thing for me I suppose. I saw them as a kid and have always wanted one.
Thanks for the words of encouragement Nash.

I think they deserve to be, Ive worked on E-homes for many years now and still really appreciate the way it was built. This is the first time we i'm aware of that we know someone who knows someone who was there when the marquee was designed.

Nice score! What you'll want to do is check the filament voltage, as I'll bet it's high and has killed the tubes. Ditto for the other set.
Also, get a stock 180DMB22 tube and cut it out of the 8" mount. Smash the green tube out of the LC housing, and mount the new one. A pain, but once you learn it once, it's not hard to do.

Thanks for the comments guys.
I am working out all the details on the components for the maintenance on the boards. Looks like some of the tech note stuff had been done to the plain 8500.
I do not plan on having the LC set-up any time soon. Time will tell though.

James | I sold a handful of 8500's to guys in Ontario "back in the day". Maybe it's one of mine?

Doubtful, Neither has any maintenance stuff done to them.
The 8500 came from a media companies board room.
The 8501LC I have no idea about where it came from. That one also has no mods/maintenance done to it what so ever.

That definitely tops my 8500 for $250. Nice score, and great story!
