Hey, everyone, I love the site, I have looked around and tried to read up on my new projector as much as possible, but still have one small question.

So my friend's dad didn't want this projector, his friend gave him, so my friend thought i might want it instead of throwing it away. So i got a Sony 1272 for free, it is a little banged up, but I figured for free I can try it out and see if it even works. I ain't messed around with it to much yet, but I did notice that on the back panel where the inputs are, that it is missing the section that is supposed to have the RGB connections. So my question is, is it even possible to buy that piece to pretty much the plug that piece straight into the existing hole? If so, where would i got about getting that part? Like I said i am completely new to this scene, so go easy one me. And teach me everything. Very Happy
Thanks everyone.

Welcome to the forum!

The RGB card that would usually occupy your empty slot is called an IFB-12A - it looks like this:

You can probably find one around here - somebody probably has one - or, if not, ebay... If there isn't one there, there will be one.

That card works great if you want to hook up an HTPC (computer) with a VGA output using a VGA-5BNC cable. It also works great if you want to use an outboard digital/analog converter like an HD Fury 1/2/3 to connect a newer HDMI device like a Blu-ray player or cable/sat box. That's not your only option, though.

You could also buy a Moome IFB HDMI card. There is usually a used one or two available, or you could buy a new one:

http://www.curtpalme.com/IFB-FULLHD.shtm

That might be more money than you want to spend, but those are you options - something between $40-50 and $350 depending on what you want and what you want to spend.

More questions? Ask away!

Cheers,
SC

Check with Curt first on the input card. If he doesn't have one for sale, let me know as I have an IFB-11 card. Works perfect.

But again, please check with Curt first.

IFB-10, IFB-11, IFB-12 or IFB-12a will all work for you.

Sweet, how much are they going for?

I got the projector plugged in, and plugged, the s-video cable into it, and it displayed it on the wall, but it was upside down. I read in the guides how to swap it, so I am going to try that out, hope it goes well. I tried a little of the focusing on the menu buttons, but couldn't get the red and blue crosses to line up with the green cross, so I have going to try figured out to get them to line up. Well thanks for the all the replies and words of encouragement.

Okay thanks Curt. I will probably end up buying one of those.

I have more questions now for everyone. What cables will i need to buy to use the ifb-12 and ifb-11 and what are the main differences in the two? What kind of resolutions and inputs do each have? I would like to spend less than $75, what input card would be my best sullotion to get me the best results and stay under budget?
I tried focusing in the projector the other night, i just had it on the floor pointing at the wall, because space isn't something, that i have a whole lot of. I could get the red and blue crosshairs to line up vertically with the green crosshairs, but couldn't get them to line up horizontally, they stopped about 2 inches short of where i needed to be, Any suggestions? Am i going to have to open it up and move the actual lenses? I have got to mess around with it much yet, but I am off all week next week for vacation so i was hoping to mess around with it then. I wanted to try and get the s-video picture as nice as i could, before i went and spent money for the hd input card. Again thanks. I am trying to search and learn as much as I can, but sometimes I have no idea some of the terms and techniques mentioned. I feel like I am way over my head.

I have done more, reading I plugged in my projector, to my cable box with a s-video cable and messed with the settings and everything, and got it looking pretty good. I accidentally touched something i should have and got quite a nice shock, literally.

The only thing i noticed was the space or little black lines in the picture, and from reading, I have seen that's because I have not putting a high enough resolution into the projector, and that would mean I need a doubler or tripler right?, for my s-video connections?

If I buy a 12 input card, What would be my best way to get my component plug-ins to play on projector? Should I just get a cable that is component to 5bnc? Or do i need to get a converter of some kind? I would be plugging in xbox-360 and hd cable box, and blu-ray player, all with component cables. I don't need to plug them all in at once, but one at a time, and I could switch manually when i want a different source.

Get a Box 1020 or Box 1040. Both are for sale here on Curts site. it be the cheapest way to get better than a s -video 480i pic.

I think the quickest and cheapest way to see what the projector can do is to get a HDTV card and install it in your pc. You should be able to find a MyHDTV card on eBay for cheap. The MyHDTV can output 1080i vga or DVI with the daughter card add-on.

s-video is 480i, pure crap. If you line double it you will wind up with twice as much crap. Laughing

component video needs to be electronically transcoded to RGB, then you would need and RGB switcher. constantly pulling cables is a good way to get a short somewhere.
your better off sending HDMI to a cheap switcher and then transcoding that with an old Fury 1 and DVI adapter. The send that to either and IFB 11 or 12.
People usually sell the old Fury's for about 50 bucks, post a WTB in the for sale section.
Something like this 3 x HDMI to switcher- HDMI / DVI cable to Fury1, VGA / VGA cable to IFB-11 would be the cheapest thing I can think of.

So the 480i video is crap, so what would i get to make my old school gaming consoles look better if not a doubler?

I have a pioneer elite 21 reciever, is there a way i can run everything into that and then just one or two outputs into the HDMI fury thing you are talking about?

Thanks so much for helping me out everyone, I am sorry if it gets annoying answering dumb questions that all the newbies(like me) have.

it is what it is, you can send it as composite video to your pioneer receiver which should be able to upscale it to some higher rez. like 1080i and hopefully output it as HDMI?

yes, the receiver will replace the switcher, run all HDMI, up to 4, to the pioneer and then a HDMI/DVI combo cable to the Fury/projector.
