Hi there.

I've got a rather strange problem with my 800. Well, i say 800, it's choc full of mainly 801 parts and it's worked perfectly for the last 2 years. I have a ton of 800/801 spares but this problem has me completely confused.

Basically,

Turn machine on
Fan's fire up, led's lit on controller board
Focus module: all LED's lit including scan fail

Then the HTHD LED as well as the green LED on the SMPS daughterboard start to blink about once every two seconds. after 10 seconds the machine turns itself off then on again and the process is repeated.

I've replaced everything! nothing works! If i run the machine with just the SMPS same problem occurs. Could there be a problem with the controller board? that's the one spare I havent tried!

Have replaced H+V to no avail
have tried 4 different SMPS known working in 808
have replaced quad

Any suggestions massively appreciated!

Thanks
Jon

The SF light is the key. You have H or V deflection failure, or the power supply has an issue on it.

It could also be the H shift board as it has a pulse on it that will put the set in shutdown mode if that pulse is missing. I can't see it being the controller board.

I'm blowing out most 800 and 801 boards at $10 each if you want known working spares.

Curt,

thanks for the reply.

would the set behave like this even with just the SMPS in place. I've literally changed everything.

I did leave out one detail. I fired it up with the controller board wire connected to the wrong board (idiot) but turned it off as soon as i realised!

Cheers

Yes, the set will not stay on with only the SMPS installed, as the controller is looking for the other boards in the set. WHen it can't find them, it shuts down.

if you plugged the controller cable into the V board, you killed the V board most likely. I had a customer do that a few years ago, and when 3 courier trips didn't solve his issues, he sent me the set. One look at the chassis told me what he couldn't. Wink

He kept plugging the controller connector into the V board, and smoked board after board after board.... total repair time on the bench- 15 minutes.

Fortunately he lived pretty close, so it wasn't a big deal.

Curt,

Thanks again.

I've just tried a couple of V boards which i'm 90% sure are ok. Is the V board from my 808 compatible? Also, just noticed, when the HTHD light blinks there is a very quiet "tick" that comes from the SMPS.

Is there any chance of it being the controller? is this easy to replace?

thanks jon

Curt,

Further to my previous post I looked at your notes and saw they were compatible and lo and behold it fires up with the v board from my 808! Do you have any in stock? any idea of shipping charges to london uk?

thanks so much!

Jon

Thanks!
