My NEC 9PG+ seems to be extremely hot on the bottom metal plate next to the bottom fan. It is almost hot enough to burn you. Does this seem right or might something be wrong. Projector seems to work ok.
Thanks

It is usually the convergence board. In my setup the set was running cool -are you running it on the floor? My friend who I sold one of my nec he runs it on ceiling and he also noticed the burning hot. This is common on PG-s... My friend sovled with an added cpu heatsink to the bottom (without the fan) he says it is much cooler. However semiconductors can happily work at that high temperatures which you can't touch.

Ok cool. I guess I won't worry about it then. I did a full hardware convergence and very lightly use the magenetic convergence settings so I suspect mine just likes to run hot. It was originally running on the floor but now it runs on top of a table and it is kinda "suspended" above the table to give it enough air flow.
Perhaps I should do the hardware convergence again. Although I think I'll wait till my new switcher w/HDMI arrives.
Thanks!

I think the too much space on the bottom can cause this warming, because the air in a big gap isn't forced to stroke the bottom plate which acts as heatsink. I made a silly picture

gjaky: too much space will certainly not cause that problem.
Too little space (mounted flush to the ceiling, or table-top mounting) will hinder air-flow though and cause hot air to be trapped at the bottom of the PJ. Natural convection will just not work too good in that mounting scenario.
Doug Baisey used to recommend 10" clearance above the PJ's base in ceiling mount orientation.
I have a bit more than that using a Sony PSS-10 dropped ceiling mount that I shortened for my needs.
PJ is mounted perfectly square to the screen, tube/lens toe in are perfect, CPC magnets centered perfectly as well. That way I have to use minimal electronic adjustments.
My PJ's exhaust temps are just slightly higher than ambient temp im my theater, even after hours of use. No matter if it is summer or winter (though the air conditioning makes the difference between seasons pretty much negligible).+
i have zero drift from power-up to operating temps, and season to season. Last time I had to touch up the convergence was probably more than a year ago.
