A straight through 15 pin cable will not work. You need to make the serial cable shown in the instructions. Be sure you are using a valid port on your PC and set the baud rate to 9600 initially.

Setup advice... Avoid adjusting ANY pots on the boards with the possible exception of FOCUS.

Leave the KELVIN adjustments as they are until you have written down the before settings and proceed with caution.

Try to converge the image as best you can before resorting to ZONE.

If you suddenly have a black or bright line in the middle of the image, you have used too much ZONE, LIN-BALANCE, or PIN-BALANCE.

When doing mechanical ASTIG, pre mark the rings so you can start over by 'scribing' a sharpee pen mark across the edges of the 6 rings with 2 adjacent lines to make a unique mark.

Get the mechanical setup correct early in the process. The distance to the screen should be 5%-10% closer than the manual states for best phosphor usage.

The factory reset is a highly guarded secret that I've never learned but seems just as well considering the risk of making the XG non-functional. Hitting CTRL+NORMAL does pretty much the same thing anyway.

Oops, forgot you don't have a service remote. The alternative is to center all convergence/alignment controls in the PC controls.

Do you have a signal coming in when you try to save an entry? An incoming signal is required because the projector uses the scan rate info as part of the entry creation.

If you do have an incoming signal, the 'signal entry' is made by first hitting the ADJUST button, then choose SIGNAL ENTRY from that menu and follow the prompts from there.

check the compatibility of your PC Control Software with your XG's serial number on this page first:

So far I only need HDMI 1.3

For you focus tweaking, we need to know if the focus is out due to the lens or is it electronic adjustment. Each lens has 2 wingnuts, one to lock the center and located toward the back of the lens and the other toward the front which locks the edge. The center adjustment is straightforward where you can see the focus pattern get sharpest at in the picture center. The edge adjustment is different in that the picture edges on the left and right will look smeared or hazy when out of adjustment. The other difference is that the wingnut moves as you change center focus but when you adjust edge, the wingnut is stationary while the body of the lens moves.
