My old Faroujda scaler has failed. So I want to go directly from my cable box to the Sharp ZX 9000U to view HDTV channels. I am using component. Doesn't look good. What connection to the projector should I be using from a modern cable box? Do I need any sort of converter?

What Faroudja model do you have? How were you connecting it to your source? While component to the projector is not as good as an HDMI signal, it certainly shouldn't look bad...

Also, I can probably repair the Faroudja depending on the problem it has.

Curt,
I sent the Faroujda to you a year ago and it was not repairable. Please search your records for the model #. It was bought for use with the Sharp ZX-9000U. Anyway, I bought a Runco unit from you. Never could get it working. So now I think I just want to go direct from my cable box for HD stations. Is this a good idea? I don't think the projector has HDMI. I have always connected it component. The picture I'm getting is not very clear. Something is not right.
Thanks,
Truett Miley

Can you post a pix of the screen shot? 'Not clear' really isn't very helpful, we need to know if you're losing detail, color or ?

Post your location, maybe someone here is close so that they can assist?

It is clarity and some color. I am in Baton Rouge, LA. Is a connection from cable box directly to Sharp projector good for HD signal?

Yes, an HDMI signal is technically better, but there's no reason for an HD component signal right to the projector not to be a really good image.

How were you connecting the signal source to the Faroudja to the projector before the Faroudja died? I'm trying to get some clarity why the pix was great with the Faroudja in place, but not good without it.

ARe you sure that your HD box is outputting 1080i or 720p? You'd need to go into the HD box setup menu to check that. I wonder if you were outputting 480i or 480p to the Faroudja, and the HD box is still stuck in that mode? What model was the Faroudja, I can't remember..

I will check cable box. The Faroujda was not a "high end" one. It was purchased about 8 years ago. I think it was called Native Rate. Now that I think of it, I think we were bypassing the Faroujda for HD channels already. I don't know what i have done to mess the picture up.
