Do the top end media players, recommended in this thread (I.E. Oppo), change layers transparently (no freeze / pause)? I assumed the top dollar machines buffer the data for smooth layer change. A friend asked and I couldn’t answer, all that came to mind was the big blue screen with the laser disc players from the late 19 hundreds.

I don't know about the Oppo, but I've been watching movies on BD on my PS3 for a couple of years now and I don't think I've ever seen a hiccup, burp, layer change, or anything else. Ever.

I myself use a personal computer for BD and DVD playback and have not noticed the phenomenon.
Now my older Sony DVD player is a different story, there can be noticeable pause during the layer change depending on the movie title. I always attributed this to the poor quality of the player.
So, PS3 and PC are on the A list!
What about the Marantz BD7004 referenced on this site? My friend is drawn to Marantz because of his past experience with their audio equipment.
