CHECK IT OUT
Our DIY home theater made the "Home of the Day" on Electronic House Magazine!!! Here is the link: http://www.electronichouse.com/. And here is a direct link to the article in case they stop featuring it: http://www.electronichouse.com/article/theater_room_takes_long_lean_approach
I don't know how long it will be up there but for now we are famous. I made sure they included a prop for CurtPalme.com. I appreciate all the help we got from here during the construction. Hope you all enjoy the article! We are also featured in the November issue of their magazine as well as a "Best of the Best" coffee table book they did back in the summer. So we are getting a lot of mileage out of this one.
Thanks again everyone for the help. I could not have done it without you!
PS-the one thing they couldn't comment on was the quality of the image we have coming from that Barco...300 new capacitors and it has been rock steady for two years running now!!

Nicely done, what are the dimensions of your room and screen size?
I guess if I had read the whole article I would have seen the dimensions, sorry (work place hurried)

Thanks back to everyone for all the kind compliments. Really, this theater was a group effort (mostly those here!).
WTS-Electronic House called the room "Long and Lean" but those aren't my words. It really is a well proportioned room (I think). When we add a bar in the back I suppose it will be deeper then... It is true that we wanted to seat eight in the recliners and to do that we had to buy the only smallish seats we could find (Berkline 086 group).
draganm-proudly I can say I did all the carpentry myself. In fact I did everything (including installing 300 new capacitors in the Barco!). The ONLY thing I didn't do was sew the curtains!
BTW, lastly, for the purists here...I'm not sure the EH writers who wrote the photo comments know what a Lumagen is for. Trust that I'm not driving the Barco with an "upscaling DVD player"...
PS: I also don't know where the avsforum logo came from. Blechhh

I agree the proportions are really sweet. My room is 13 x 18 and I would have LOVED to have had the extra 5 feet in the back not to mention 9 foot ceilings. Even more important your room entrance is in a much better place.

The ONLY thing I didn't do was sew the curtains! | There's not many things that can add class to a room like nice finish Carpentry. It's something I would have to hire out though as even a basic wood shop is a rather large investment. The Curtains OTOH my mom does professionally for a living, hopefully I can convince her to help with my next HT.

| well that would be a normal assumption since you don't list a Blue Ray player. Are you running BD as well or strictly scaling DVD's?

Right now just DVD's.
BD soon...I just haven't invested in any disks yet.
OTA HD NFL looks awesome though!

OMG, no Blu-ray? Holy crap, you're in for a treat if you think OTA football looks awesome. Blu-ray makes even OTA HD look like crap. I'm exaggerating a little, but a good Blu-ray almost looks as good compared to OTA HD, as OTA HD looks compared to DVD. Run, don't walk, and get yourself a BD player. Even if you don't own any disks (I only own 20 or 30), you can still rent from Netflix, Redbox, and Blockbuster. The only downside is that you won't really want to watch DVD anymore.
How did they find you? Did you submit the application last spring/summer? I was going to do that and completely blew it off. Still might.
Beautiful room!
