|
|
Just bought this unit. Fired it up and it shut off after a few seconds then flashed the F8 code. Disconnected the convergence board as was suggested and got the same result. Wasnt until I pulled the power cable from the ASTIG board and the unit fired up and displayed an image. Image is a little jumpy and I cannot control the convergence of the cross hairs. Im thinking its still the Convergence board but am looking for some advice.
If it is the convergence board, what normally fails on them?

At this point it could be a lot of things. I went through my own test NEC chassis that was working fine a month ago, sitting in my shop, and I got no pix. Turned out the video board was bad, and I had to replace 20+ parts on it. Since you have an asig board, your set is not a PG. Is it a PG+ or an Xtra?
If you get an F8 with the convergence board disconnected, the convergence board should be OK. It could be the system board, deflection board, power supply or almost any other board in the set.
In order to get a stable image, you need to feed it an RGB signal. Sending no signal to the set will make even the test patterns unstable, and they will jump around.

I did send in a video signal from the computer. Things were more stable but there would be an occasional jump in the picture.

The jump is probably the deflection board, my 9PG did the same thing til it died, it would take a couple hours for it to stabilize, it would just randomly jump left to right, sometimes just jitter.
Eventually the whole set said F*** you and your 1680x1050 resolution! Almost have the set finished, it just has one more issue to work out and it should be alive again!
But in regards to yours, the deflection board probably needs some work, I cant speak for why you cant converge the crosshairs..
Good luck
