My PS3 recently died and since I only used it for a BD player on 720p, no gaming, but I do watch content from my PC via ethernet. I decide to get a Samsung BD-C5500 player. When it is all hooked up the screen just shows rolling text so there is no way I can do a setup, just cannot see what is highlighted. The default output from the player is 1080p, apparently with no way to change it unless you are in the setup screen. I am outputting HDMI through an HD Fury 1 into a box 1040 (which is only good for up to 1080i no 1080p). Even when I bypass the box 1040 the picture still is rolling. I even tried component out through the 1040 but then I get no picture at all. When I got this set from Curt a couple of years ago he demoed it outputting 1080p so I really doubt the problem is with the PJ.
So the question is:- is there anyway in the PJ setup to stop the rolling so I can at least see what I am doing. The CS Reps at Samsung are pretty clueless and of course say that the problem is with my setup.
Anyone run into this type of problem before? I find it hard to believe that I am the first.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
Colin

Hey Colin, do the internal menus roll as well or can you read those?

Your BD player is outputting 1080p@24Hz. That is why the image is "rolling", since the CRT cannot sync to such a low frequency. Connect the player to a TV and change the output to 1080p@60Hz or 1080i@60Hz. That should solve the problem.
Also, the component output is most likely disabled when you use the HDMI output.
Hope this helps you out.

Nicholas

If that doesn't help, it's also possible to invert sync polarity inside BOX1040.
There should be jumper for negative sync polarity.

Sounds like a source issue rather than a set issue as others have said.

Thank you Nicholas, you were dead right. All is now well. Now I just need to get a box 1020 or a Fury 3 so I can do 1080p then I will be happy. Thanks to Curt and Ile for you inputs (no pun intended)

Fury1 and box1040 should both work fine with 1080p.

Glad it worked out for you. If you really want to upgrade your image try the external Moome box. It also has a Gamma adjustment circuit, so you won't have to pass the signal throught the box 1040 any more.

Ile you are correct. I was sure that when I got the box 1040 it was only good for 1080i, put it down to another senior moment. When I get the new setup streaming correctly I will redo the setup and check it out. One step at a time.
Cheers
