Do you think this will be compatible with my lg combo drive and AMD based pc?

Assuming you have the space in your case and a PCI-E 2.0 slot, why wouldn't it?

I have always been partial to the cheapy ATI (or should I say AMD) cards for some reason.

FYI, there are both DDR2 and DDR3 versions out there, and some offering DDR3 are doing so for less. You can use NVIDIA's website for shopping searches.
