So I have been talking to Moome the past few days and it turns out that he has been running 3D on his G90 with a HTPC for some time now. He says it works very well. He also says that it is a little dim due to the glasses, but all in all looks good.
So I just want to point out that a lot of the negative speculation that 3D wouldn't work with shutter glasses has now been proven wrong. With stock tubes in a G90 (not P44 phosphor) Moome is getting a decent and usable 3D image.
Here are very abbreviated excerpts from the email portion of our discussion.

Dear craig... Currently, I only can use HTPC + 3D vision to get 3D work...
Thanks

Hi Moome,
Do you have 3D working on your G90 now with your HTPC? If yes, how does it look? Do you like it?
The Lumagen XE will be able to do 3D for CRT. XE will use a trigger output to support 3D shutter glasses. The Lumagen does not do 3D now, but it will soon. I will be Alpha and Beta testing 3D for CRT with Lumagen next month....

Dear Craig:
Yes, it is good, but I think it can better if do some adjust, but less bright due to glasses...
(talking about Lumagen XE)
...Do you have any spec for it? share me the test result if you can...
Thanks

So the 3D looks pretty good then on your G90. I am happy to hear that. I have been afraid that the green phosphor might not have a fast enough decay and gohsting might happen. I think 3D on CRT will be much easier with stock tubes like you have now. This is very good news.
Do you ever see gohsting with the G90 and 3D? There is a fast decay phosphor green that is designed for 3D specifically. It uses the P43 phosphor instead of the normal LUG phosphor.

I will let you guys know if moome has anything else to say and I am going to link him to this thread as well.

Craig,
So, for those of us that didn't have the budget for an XE and had to settle for the XS, what will the option be for us?? I mean, how would we go about utilizing 3D? Is an HTPC our only option? Or is it possible for some kind of set top box?? Or are we just flat out screwed??? Or am I really just asking waaaaaay toooooo many questions in one post?

Does he have a mechanism for adjusting the sync?
I experimented with the nvidia 3D vision kit and my G90 via rgbhv as well as a few desktop CRT monitors and had significant ghosting on all of them either at the top or bottom of the image. I do have some contacts within nvidia and the response I got from them was not to expect any support or adjustments to be exposed on the driver side for CRT.
From what I observed with my sets my impression was that the ghosting was coming from slight timing differences between the one size fits all sync values in the CRT settings within the nvidia stuff. It seemed to me that if you could advance or retard the sync by a few ms you could probably get a reasonable image.
Is moome spoofing the edid to present the projector as one of the supported monitors? There is a short and restrictive list of displays that the 3D vision kit will work with via hdmi.

I believe that moome has the means thus making it pretty easy for him to update the EDID or whatever to report as A 3D supported device..
Cheers...

All I know is what I posted so far and the following:
Moome is not using a Lumagen, this is with his HTPC. I do not know if he is using HDMI/DVI or RGB off the HTPC.
The reason I posted this is proof of concept and really that's all. I just wanted to share the fact the Moome is successfully running 3D with shutter glasses on a stock G90 and it is working. I sent Moome an email with some follow up questions and also linked him to this thread. So if he feel like chiming in he may.
On another topic, I am starting work on a CRT projector 3D break out box. I just ordered a bunch of parts to start working on a prototype. My idea is to send the 3D signal to the projector through HDMI. After the HDMI is transcoded to RGBHV I plan to try and get the shutter glasses synchronization off the V-sync.
I will first test this with my DUNE Base 3.0 media server. It supports a few 3D standards including RealD. RealD is not BD quality at all, but I want to try it for proof of concept on my 3D add on box. If I get that working I will move onto 3D Bluray.
If I ever get a working 3D break out box you will need a video processor to multiply the frame rate to either 96Hz or 120Hz. 3D will never happen on a CRT unless you can supply the projector with at least 96Hz and a VP or HTPC are the only options that will do this. 96Hz progressive will probably look similar to 48Hz on a CRT in terms of flicker, but you could run a higher resolution. 120Hz won't flicker, but will require a lower resolution.
