Has anyone had an "LVPS" error light on the CLM, without any of the diagnostic indicators on the LVPS itself?

Odd deal, nothing had been changed, upon attempting to power-up, the LVPS error light comes on after about 2 seconds of holding down the power button.

So far, I've replaced the CLM and the LVPS, the problem doesn't change. Is this a wiring problem or can some other module cause this?

EDIT: Problem solved- thanks guys!!!!! cleaning the connectors between the backplane and motherboard cleared this up.

Thanks, Mark

I never heard of that one before. Do the fans run on either supply?

Remove the front cover and look at the LED's on the LVPS. Let us know which ones are lit/blinking.

Mark,
Does the machine just click away attempting to turn on when you hit the power button, or does it actually fire up all of the fans?

If the CLM tells the main section of the LVPS to turn on and it doesn't that is when the error LED comes on. At least the standby section of the LVPS is working for the error LED to work. If both CLM and LVPS have been replaced with good ones there is not much left but the connectors and boards in between.

I appreciate everyone's help!

None of the LEDs on the LVPS itself come on, and to the best of my knowledge the spare CLM and LVPS are good- I'll test these in my other projector to make sure. LVPS fans run normally.

No relay clicking, none of the usual noises. Unit is completely quiet, error light on CLM comes on within 2 seconds of holding down power button.

Something loose on the backplane or motherboard perhaps? I'll start tearing it apart....

Thanks, Mark

pull out the focus board and disconnect the ribbon cable to the convergence amp before you go tearing it all apart.
you might also just run the green tube, so pull out the hv leads from the blue and red going to the splitter and to be sure run red alone if the problem remains.

Shoot. No easy fix, this. The CLM and LVPS work in the other 9500, and the other cards do as well.

It's not as if this has been dropped or anything. No glycol leaks, no rain coming through the roof, no leprechauns either.

I'll try cleaning the edge connectors and white plastic plugs first...

Thanks, Mark

I just stripped my project down to replace the back plane, now that it is back together I am getting the exact problem you described.

The LVPS itself could be bad, a wire is pinched when you put it back together, or there’s some short on the board. What you can do is pull out or disconnect every board in the set save for the CLM or the LVPS. Those are the only two boards in the set that need to be in to power the belly fans up, which would indicate the set is powering up properly. See if removing a board or three will get rid of the LVPS light.

In my case, the problem was the connection between the backplane board and motherboard; it looks like at some point there had been some dampness or a glycol leak. Cleaning both sides of these connectors solved the problem- no issues since.

This was a pretty big project; I had to take the whole thing apart. If there's any other maintenance that needs doing, this is the time! I cleaned up with denatured alcohol and dry compressed air.

Thanks Mark,

Thanks for the info, on my investigation I have Good news and Bad news about my issue.

I got the LVPS working, after pulling each board out one by one what finally worked was pulling the ribbon cables on convergence and vertical output boards. When I reattached the ribbons the LVPS worked fine.

The bad news, the thing still does not light up! Which is why I replaced the back plane in the first place.

So at this point I have replaced the back plane and Curt tested the HDM, CLM and HVPS. I also cleaned all of the connections with DeOx when pulling it apart.

Curt is helping me trouble shoot, one telling issue is no crackling during start up.

Double check your VDM ribbon cable, make sure its on correctly. This will cause a HV shut down/non Start.
