|
|
I have a set of wireless speakers that I want to use for the front surround sound speakers for my outdoor movie night tonight. I have attached a picture of the connector that goes with the transmitter. I know these are supposed to use an audio out signal but is there anyway to use the front speaker terminals with this?
Thanks
Dan

If your AVR has "preamp out" terminals, you can just hook the speakers to those. If not, then you'll need what's usually called a "lineout converter", which takes a speaker-level output and makes a preamp signal out of them. People use them in car audio all the time to convert a factory head unit's speaker output to a preamp output to drive an aftermarket amp.
Here's one that handles 80W, which may or may not be enough.

The only concern I'd have is that some little wimpy wireless speakers will be vastly inadequate for an outdoor application like this... If you need to power the speakers, then you need a drop cord... Can't you just run speaker wire, too?

The receiver that I am using does have pre amp out but I cannot seem to make this work. I guess I need to read the manual further. Is there usually a way to program the pre amp outputs for the speakers that you want such as front, rear, center? The speakers can either be powered with adapters or batteries. They put out a suprising amount of sound as well as sounding pretty good for what they are.

The preamp outs should be always on. Are you powering the speakers with batteries or power packs? Is there a light on the speakers to show they have power? How about the wireless transmitter, does it have a light to show its powered?

I have the speakers working using the video audio out on the back of the receiver but that provides just the 2 channel audio. I was attempting to get a surround setup going with using the wireless speakers for the fronts.
Thanks

So you want to use the preamp outs for the fronts and the regular speakers outputs for the surrounds. Correct?
It should work. Does the AVR have test sounds for the various outs? Are the levels set up high for the surrounds?
