While looking for a way to retain the ONStar in my H3 if I decided to put my Alpine in it I found the Carputer forums.
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/

Now I am looking into the parts for a carpc.

When will the madness ever end.

As I am doing more research on the carpc route I am finding this could br nice to use the frontends for theater pcs. With the ability to use cards to control lights and such you could do quite a bit with this route.

Adam,
I've used some of the products from mini-box.com. They make a nice looking case, they also make DC/DC converters so you can use a standard mini-ITX board.

I ordered the MB, http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=iHWm73RqE6MCmCtw&templete=2. Even if I don't use it for the truck it will be a great pc for the bedroom.

I see $25 touch screens on www.ableshoppers.com all the time...

I wonder if there is anyway to integrate this?

For the price I'm gonna try. I can't see why it wouldn't work just need to figure out the connections, I already downloaded the manual so I should have it figured out by the time it arrives.

Awesome...keep us in the loop. Those things keep popping up.

I wanted to do a data logging dashboard to get more engine stats on my Nav display but gave up all hope in trying to rig an additional input or switch for the current video signal being fed to it.

Look at something like the WDTV Live. Plug a DVI LCD monitor into the HDMI port, and there you go. Firmware has support for USB keyboards, so it's feasible to add wired controls. Since it runs Linux, maybe other car-pc stuff can be persuaded to run on it. And hopefully better front-ends for media navigation and playback. The stock interface is fine for playing video, but I don't like how it handles music.

Or just use the WDTV for playing video, which relaxes the requirements for the main car pc.
