|
|
I've posted elsewhere about my novice efforts to get my PJ up and running and tonight I had a huge leap forward thanks to this site.
Everything appeared pretty much standard apart from the focus; especially on the blue tube.
Not having seen another CRT PJ before meant that I had no reference to go with. Anyway, I re-read Curts' primer and detailed setup tips and decided to ignore the dire warnings and give the G2 adjustment a go.
Well, I was gobsmacked by the results!
The red and green tubes were almost 1V adrift either side of the quoted 4V reference.
Those tubes displayed reasonable focus from my limited experience and it was the the blue tube that was poor by comparison.
When measured, the blue tube was actually -1.5V! As Curt says, it was only a tiny amount of movement necessary to bring all of the pots to within a few hundreths of the quoted 4V.
The result has been outstanding. I know this PJ was never going to be the last word, but it's now VERY watchable.
What surprised me most was that all of the adjustments have had virtually no effect on colour balance...... it was all about the focus...
I knew I had 2 very good tubes (R&G) and one pretty good tube (B) but even so, I was surprised at the ease of this adjustment.
My reason to post this is twofold;
1. Big thanks to Curt for the site. I would never have got this far without it.
2. To encourage anybody who feels reasonably confident with a screwdriver and a voltmeter to give it a go! Rip off that warning sticker and give it a go!
Cheers Curt!

Thanks! A post like this offsets at least 10 emails I get, usually through ebay, that ask for help, I give it, then I never get a reply whether my info helped.
One thing I noticed as well is that poorly set G2s also really affects the focusing of the 12XX series. Hopefully that tightened up a bit as well.
Cheers!
Curt

Whatever, it's on my Facebook. Thanks Mullet!
Remember, it's a far cry of my cokebottle glasses and the sweet mullet I was rockin' in the 80s. I do have pix of that. And I'm NOT sharing!

do i have to turn off akb while adjusting g2? unfortunately that isn't described at curts great how to. So i'm thinking that akb needs to stay turned on while doing the g2 setup?

No, you don't need to if you're using a Voltmeter.
That will help you for visual adjustment of G2.
