don't i just add an external filter here?? I try to add it, and it never shows up....it's also not in the list of existing external filters. What gives??
Another adventure in the mad world of htpc...but I'll try to stick it out this time!

I've never been able to get reclock to work in xp or windows 7. Not sure why, just always does goofy things like bluescreen my machine, etc.

I also tried analog sound from the PC...it sounded great! I can't imagine the fuss about bitstreaming, that's for sure.

I would try using 32 bit MPC-HC, if you are not already. Yes...With a decent sound card analog sounds great.

I think onboard would be just as good as a decent soundcard...I've done a lot of reading this week, and bumped into a great thread on audioholics from a guy who has spent the better part of 12 years analyzing sound...and in particular, dacs. In his bias controlled studies, with levels properly matched (this is th key!), he is certain that all somewhat modern dacs sound the same...dacs within the last 10 years or so...the same! Burr Browns, etc..etc...all just hype and specs..no real sound advantages.

Mark got me to switch to analog sound and I haven't looked back. It's WAY better than toslink IMHO. I just can't get DTS-HD to work with MPCHC.  The audio track sounds high pitched and like it's playing fast motion.

I think I'll try installing the 32 bit verion of mpc-hc...hopefully that will take care of it!

I will...and without it, I wouldn't bother using an htpc as it's far too annoying!
