hey guys,
is it possible to do a language/software update for my marquee 8000? i'm from germany and it would be nice to have a german software version.

Hello
I do not have an 8000 here to test with, but my 8500 has German available under UTIL, Preferences in v3.1 firmware. To add German in your 8000, a newer control board may be needed.

Me too.
Well maybe not interested in another language, but newer software with more functions.
Is it just to buy new proms and swap, or should the old ones be sent for reprogramming?
An approximate cost for such an operation/new proms would be interesting to know.

AFAIK, other than the hour meter, you won't get any other functions with newer software. I'd leave it alone. One day you'll want to upgrade the whole set to a newer one, and the old parts (some of them) won't work in a later model anyways.

Guys
After v3.3 which saw H linearity adjustment for the first time, the improvements up to v4.0 were small things like improved RS232 communications. You cannot add Ultra geometry with just chip-up, a number of boards in the projector are different in the Ultra.

I understand that new functions might require hardware that didn't exist in the 8000.
I thought there might be other functions that only required new firmware, like the hour meter, but it seems like that is not the case.
On the other hand, I don't even know how to use all the functions that are already there

Achtung Maurice, I have some V3.1 chips lying around here which I don't need. You'rs free for the price of postage.

The best things you can do to an 8000 are to get 8500 VNB's,HDM,VIM, and CLM and if you can a 34.9 Kv HVPS. That might be cheaper than looking for a whole set and shipping. And if you want to get astig look for all the rear heat sink boards and 8500 focus coils, but a set of 6 pole cpc magnets can get the same results if you have patience . I added all those to my first M8000 and it looked pretty good at 1080p@48.

good to know tim, I haven't had an 8000 here in 4 or 5 years. I do remember the CLM looks different and I remember some of the chips were even different sizes.
