Hey guys, was cleaning up the lenses and tube faces and did the scheimpflug at the same time, I decided to get a pic of the tubes.

What would you rate them at?

I'd say 8 -7/6 -7.5/8 in R-G-B order from left to right

The counter is most likely wrong, since it says about 300-400 for the 3 tubes (how nice it would be if they were really only 300-400 hours of wear).

You've got a static image burn as well as wear on that green, it will drive you crazy if you know its there...

However, even crappy tubes like that can look great in an NEC, you can likely even get it to do D6500 and you won't even notice the wear as long as you stay within the worn area.

Also, I'll take a stab in the dark here and say that the blue has probably been changed. No way should the red and blue be so close in wear. The blue should be closer to the green than the red.

I was thinking the same thing steful, because so far this is the only projector that I have seen equal wear on the red and blue tube. Actually its the only CRT I have had that has wear on the red tube. Still not bad though, if I could find a nice 8+ green It'd be nice!

Still throws out a hell of an image, havent had any complaints yet Thumbs Up

and I will admit, the previous setup of the projector looks very nice on the tubes (a lot better than some I have seen on the tube rating chart thats for sure Very Happy) I assume to get that perfectly square wear that it has someone had the projector lenses at a perfect or near perfect 90 degree angle to the screen?

Im tempted to rip out the wall where my 55 gallon aquarium is and make the room a bit bigger so I can move the PJ back for a larger image since Im probably a bit too close to my screen with where it currently is (The XG is a wee bit longer than my PG was Wink)

My XG's Red was actually WORSE than the blue - and I'm pretty sure they were original tubes... maybe a trait of the projector?

Talk to me in a year or two after a few thousand hours on my new tubes and we'll see what the wear looks like.

My understanding is a NEC can eat a Green tube very quickly. Mine has a little over 2K on the clock all put on by me over the last 7 years and has very noticeable wear. Contrast has never been higher than 73 and brightness never higher than 71.

A red tube can be a 6-7, and you still won't see the wear between worn and virgin phosphor. No explanation for it, but that's the way it is..Smile
