|

Are there any Blu-ray players that are region free for Bl-ray disk playback? When I Google I keep getting a-holes advertising region-free DVD players with Blu-ray players (that are region locked). Honestly, I, personally, could care less about DVD playback.

The LG BH100 And BH200 are region free. The BH100 is right out of the box RF, the BH200 needs a simple remote control Eprom change in a service menu.
there are threads on it over on AVS in the dual format players section as they play HD DVD and BD. There are some playback issues for some users but not all. I have both and like them and have a few euro coded discs
that play fine. I also have the Oppo BP83 and plan to try that region free add on board at some point.

Wow, Amazon has so called partner sites selling them new for $1,500! Can brother get a Kiss My Arse!?!
For that kind of money I could buy dedicated Region B and C players for half the price.

Depending on what kind of capabilities you're looking for in your player, there's a hardware mod (very easy to apply, basically remove one ribbon cable inside and replace it with a modded one) for the Oppos (BDP-83, 83SE, and 80) that will make them DVD and BD region free. That's going to be more expensive than the LG players, but the Oppos will play just about every format under the sun.

Its $69, and NOT offered through this forum.
I am not looking necessarily to stream anything, nor 3D. I'd like 7.1 analog out and the ability to now purchase non-NA Blu-ray titles that are offered elsewhere on the planet (e.g. Renaissance ). I think the Oppo 80 would do the trick, and that modification. Still, I have not yet directly communicated with anyone that has done this.

There's a couple different mods floating around, I have the one from CRT Projectors in England in my BDP-83 and it's never given me any problems.
There's also one from Bluraychip.dk that others have used, I seem to recall very occasional problems with this one but I could be wrong.
