Interesting listing on Ebay. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought only G90's have this dying chip problem

Yes G70's Have A knowen Dallas Chip Issue as well (DS1245Y) and can start showing error codes like 10/88 when the Dallas Nonvolatile Sram chip starts to fail around the 8/10 year mark on start up after unpluging from wall socket ..

JohnHWMan brought it to my attention over on AVS
While the original Dallas SRam used in the G70 is different(less memory) to the one used in the G90
The G90 Dallas SRam will work in A G70, I am using A G90 one..

Here is the PDF

Only if your battery is week. Its the Dallas chip that stores all the user set calibration and geometry settings. If you're currently still on an original chip you'd be advised to copy the data onto a new chip before you lose the information. Even if the chip starts to exhibit weak battery symptoms there's usually still time to recover the data before it gets corrupted.

I put a new Dallas in my G90 last year and have piece of mind that its good for another 9 years. Cheap insurance IMO, although the 'service' offered in the Ebay add seems a bit steep. I had mine done for $70.
