I have a BG 1208. Several years ago, the composite video input went out. Recently, the "S" video input went south too (voltage spikes?? lighting??). This is a secondary theater set up for the kids; no BRay yet, std DVD, cable and gaming. I can either replace/fix input board and continue with current "S" video resolution, or I could keep "bad" input card and change over/upgrade to RGBHV input using HDFury 3. The latter would require some electronic (source and AV receiver) upgrading ($$) to HDMI etc.
Two questions: Any input on similar experience of upgrading from "S" video to HD 1080i or p with BG 1208? Is it a significant change? (FYI 8.5 ft dia screen, viewed fairly close at about 12 feet from screen and no line multiplier or other mods).
How can the (sensitive) 1208 input board be best protected against future spikes, lighting etc?
Thank you for your response.

While the RGB input might be OK, sometimes faults do carry over to other inputs. I think I talked to you quickly on the phone or via emal, right? As I said, you're doing yourself a huge disservice with video or Svideo, you'll be stunned at how much better HD looks via the Fury and RGBHV input. I would change the RGB input board though as well. also, ground the heck out of your system to a proper ground. While the older RGB input boards out of the BG800 were sometimes prone to static, the 1208/808 ones are usually pretty reliable.

|
|
Wondering if anybody can help with the hook up of an HDFury 3 to Input 5 RGBHV on a BG 1208. I am successful getting the HDMI handshake with the HDFury. However, the projector keeps indicating "no signal". The H and V sync are on the blk and wht F connector coming from the HDFury. I do not know which is which; I have tried reversing to no avail. What about programming of the dip switches, in particular the pos/neg sync switches 2 and 3?
To ensure that input 5 is alive, I conducted a test by using a regular component output to the RGB input which resulted in a green image.
Thank you in advance.

Have you read the Fury 3 manual ?
http://www.curtpalme.com/docs/HDfury3manual.pdf
Seems on my Fury 1 vertical sync was on Black.
Quote: Separate sync is most common with VGA, used worldwide for analog computer monitors. This is sometimes known as RGBHV, as the horizontal and vertical synchronization pulses are sent in separate channels. This mode requires five conductors. If separate cables are used, the sync lines are usually yellow (H) and white (V) or yellow (H) and black (V), or gray (H) and black (V)
I don't have a Fury 3 but you would think the H and V sync leads would have a standard color code or be tagged.....

Hey Tom:
Thanks for checking in. Yes I jumped on the HDFury 3 manual before I started playing around. I'm sure you checked it out as well. Based on your comment of 2:13pm 7/15, it looks like blk is Vertical. I'm also wondering if anybody knows which way dips 2 and 3 (V and H sync) are to be set for the BG 1208. On another note, I think there is a contradictory typo in the HDFury 3 manual regarding dip switch #4 for color depth. I guess I should follow up with Curt.

Try setting both to negative sync. And no I did not read the full manual for the Fury 3 as I don't have one...
