Anyone know what would cause the HV to switch off on a Sony VPH 1001-QM right after start up?
Turning on the set it all fires up fine, and after 2 seconds or so, you hear the sound of the HV turning off ( the same sound youd normally hear when you turn the set off, static sound )
Nothing on the tubes for obvious reasons. The rest of the set stays running.
Thanks in advance

Your problem sounds very familiar to the problem I'm having with my 8500. I haven't done it yet but Nash suggested I isolate each tube one at a time by removing the neck boards. Would that same test work on a Sony? I should think nb's are all similar in function except perhaps they don't control HV sensing shutdown like a Marquee?
He said to remove all the cabling from the nb before removing it from the tube neck. I can't remember if he said to remove the HV lead from the splitter but I'm going to anyway. I'd rather have nothing connected to the tube at all.

No idea if that will work or not, at one point i did get two bright flashes and a couple pops from the blue another time i got the same from the green, but i seriously doubt that was terminal or even did any damage, cause after that i checked a heap of connections and it fired up perfectly. I wouldnt think its the tubes, they displayed a perfect picture until this issue, and when i managed to get the HV to stay in the other night they were perfect too.
