Hey Guys,

I have most of my BD's ripped to MKV and they are all 1080p, many of the rips are 2.40:1 or similar. Is there a program that I can use to re-encode these rips to 1920x800p or whatever 2.35:1 works out to?

Thanks,

Erik

Not sure but you might want to lookinto MeGui. Think you would have to set the resolution and or crop the image to remove the borders. Doom9 is a good resource for this kinda thing. I can check some of the info I have on it when I get home from work. You could also try aspect ratio correction in your player I think with FFDshow. Shure that Mark or some of the other HTPC guys will chime in though before then.

Why?

You won't really save any space, the black bars require bugger all space to encode them.

If I can find a simple way to do it I'd like to for simplicity on the playback side, if I set my desktop resolution to 1920x800p and run a re-encoded 2.40:1 film it will playback in the proper AR and fill the screen with no messing around.

Does WMC 7 work at 1920X800p ? I tried Vista MC and it was all screwed up. I can't give up MediaBrowser, I'm hooked...It's getting very slow however at finding the poster art and media data.

When I tested it (quickly) I didn't see any problems running 7MC at 800p, but then I don't remember having issues with Vista Media Center either?

Have you tried to run MediaBrowser off a USB thumb drive? I haven't tried it yet but have read that it can help with the speed issue and large libraries, I assume running an SSD would have the same or better affect though.
