I went to a local hardware store today. One edge of the parking is along a stream and drainage channel that carries water from the mountains to the ocean during the rainy season. I simply could not pass by without checking out the stream: "Water and meditation are forever wedded."....;>)
It looks like a Sony 10XX, so I guess that it is no great loss. Still, it was surprising to see it there.

F*** that, i have one of those!! Its a 1001 QM, i bent over backwards to make it go!! Cant tell from those pics what model it is. Its got all analog controls for picture, so its not a 1001 or a 1044.

Fixing a video grade projector is no waste, its a good deed to the CRT world, and they are usually the most reliable of the CRT rigs out there, so they will serve you well for many years.

Serve you well doing what? An old 12" RGB monitor with a .45 dot pitch will 'serve you well', too, but that doesn't mean that keeping it alive is doing anybody any good whatsoever.
It's one thing to rescue something that's still useful, but seriously? At a fixed 60i refresh, that thing would barely be useful as a mood light, particularly when you can get machines 20x better for free as well.

Nah thats not true!!
When you have a collection of VHS tapes and 4 really old video game consoles dating back to the 80s and 90s, 576i is all you need, and whats more, the light guns work on it, where as they dont on the others. I can sit in bed and play Point Blank on my old first gen Playstation with the gun and it works!! I can play my 3DO, i can play my Sega Megadrive, i can play my master system, and i can play my Nintendo 64. None of those ever put out more than 576i, so why bother with more? VHS wasnt even that high a res, so it aint a big issue.

I'd probably grab that. No need for it to be down there, and there's a good amount of recyclable aluminum in it.
The first thing I looked at was the lenses before I even ID'ed the projector. You'd have made quite a score if it had a good set of any
version HD-10s.

I can't help but think they spent more time and energy hoofing it over the railing than if they just took it to a dumptser or recycler. Maybe it's more difficult to dispose of properly in Hawaii, but still...

It is very easy to re-cycle items like this in Honolulu. One of the great things that the city does is the monthly "bulk item collection". TV's, appliances, furniture, etc. can be put out on the curb one day a month and a city truck comes by and hauls it all away for proper disposal. Sometimes, it makes for interesting curbside "browsing".
On the first such collection after last Christmas, there were four Sony flat screen, CRT TV's and a Vizio 42" LCD TV on the sidewalk just a half block from my building. The Vizio had a cracked screen, but it disappeared within a day. Maybe someone was looking for some good boards. The Sonys ranged from 30" to 40" and two were wide screen and two were 4:3. I wondered about the Sonys. Were they junk or were they working and had just been replaced by a Christmas LCD or plasma? Curiosity got the better of me and one evening, I put my big UPS on a small hand truck, gathered up some tools and power cords and went to see what would work. One of the 4:3 and one of the wide screens worked fine. Curiosity satisfied, I just left them all there.
Back to the Sony in the ditch. Anybody need parts??.........;>)

Well, the parts offer was tongue-in-cheek, but OK , it might be an interesting exercise. When I saw the thing down there, I looked around for a way to get to it. I could probably jump down without killing myself, but I was a little concerned about getting back up. Let me try to find some time and a couple of ropes to "clean the stream bed". At least, I could dispose of it properly. I have been planning on a trip out to the West side of the island to get some parts from a junked car this weekend, but a few more days shouldn't make any difference. The projector looks like it has been there a while.
