I finally got around to testing the projector I bought off ebay,(thanks brad, it was packed very well) and i cant get it to display any video signal. the menus will display and it will detect the signals, but no video will appear. I believe it is an XG85 because it was manufactured 11/98 and accepts component inputs. The chassis has 1830 hours on it. Something that might help diagnose the problem that I just noticed, every so often when the projector is turned on, it will display ,"new signal detected" even though it is already in the input list. Any help will be appreciated

Sounds like you first need to engage the active input. The most direct way is to use the number buttons on the remote.
  • Button 1 will engage the RGBHV BNC inputs and you will see a green LED illuminate next to the row of BNC connectors. At that point the projector will accept a signal from a PC from it's VGA output. If you have an XG852, it will accept component via the RGB BNC connectors. The earlier models are not equipped to handle component directly. The other sign that the projector is ready for component are the labels on the BNC. The earlier models have only R,G,B,H,V while the component ready model will have the BNC's marked R/Cr, G/Y, B/Cb, H,V. Do not confuse the 2 Dsub 15pin connectors marked REMOTE and OPTION for VGA inputs. They are used for control.
  • Button 2 selects one of the VIDEO inputs (I forget if its the composite or S-Video).
  • Button 3 selects the other VIDEO input (I forget if its the composite or S-Video).
  • Button 4 selects input from the optional slot B card.
  • Button 7 selects input from the optional slot C card.

If all else seems correct, ensure you have the RGBHV cables connected correctly. The H and V connectors can be accidently swapped and the color code has a couple variants. If the H and V cables are grey and black, then H is grey and V is black. If your cable has white and yellow for H/V, H is white and V is yellow.

If you are getting a picture but with the 'NEW SIGNAL' message, then you need to create a new SIGNAL ENTRY for it, even if there seems to be one in the list already that you think applies. If there's enough of a signal timing mismatch, the pj doesn't recognise the existing entry in the SIGNAL list to correlate it with the incoming signal. But there is a way to get the projector to use the settings from the existing signal entry to apply it to the 'NEW SIGNAL'. Start with the input active that made the NEW SIGNAL message come up. Next press the ADJUST button on the remote and from the menu select NEW SIGNAL ENTRY'. Put the cursor at the List position where you want the new entry to exist, at the step where it asks for the Source info, select ENTRY NUMBER, then cursor to the entry you feel matches the input and press ENTER to copy the data to the active input.

I knew about selecting the input and the cable is hooked up correctly, but when I create a signal entry, the horizontal frequency is correct but the vertical frequency is always around 33hz. This happens with rgbhv, rgb with composite sync and component(I don't have the projector in front of me to check the ports, but when i was re-seating the cards i saw it had a component video decoder board, along with options for it in the menu.) It seems to me there is something wrong with the vertical sync section. Does the XG have shakey menu display with no signal connected, because on my old Barco data 701 the menus are solid with no signal.
