Can anyone here help out? Customer has a Runco 930 (PGXtra) and wants to go HD. Has Fury1, but the setup/convergence is daunting for him.
It sounds like the projector is OK (the problem sounds like it's in his old NEC line doubler), but he needs the Fury connected and tweaked. This isn't warranty, nor did I sell the set, so compensation is between you and him.
Post here if you can help, or email/PM me, and I'll connect you.
Thanks!
Curt

I'll be heading through Texas on Monday as we're driving back from Minnesota to Arizona (via Oklahoma City), but I don't think my schedule would allow a detour as we're on a tight schedule to get my wife back to AZ for work purposes.
I can see if I can finagle anything though....

I'm in Austin but I don't know anything about NEC PG's or NEC in general.

If this is a projector that has already been set up for upscaled DVD's (1080i or 720P), then why would he need more setup done just for HD? He's not going to be pushing 1080P through there. The HD should be used on whatever channel or input he uses for his current upscaled DVD and should work fine?
I mean I could go over and touch up his convergence if someone reminds me how it's done. But it shouldn't need that. He may need to adjust phase though, if NEC's have that. You can give him my contact info if you want. But I don't know that I would be able to help much.

CZ Eddie, convergence on the NEC is pretty damn easy really, the menus are all in a good order, follow that order and it all comes together pretty well.
The way i did it, and im not an expert, but ive done it quite successfully on a couple PGs, was as follows:
make sure rasters are centered and not too large or too small ( probably not an issue if its allready setup )
align the guns by pointing the red and blue in the dirrection where they match the green in the center of the crosshair
twist the deflection yokes if required to make sure all are aligned vertically
You should be right to skip those if its allready done right.
Go to options and turn off POINT convergence.
In the alignment menu now with just green tube on:
adjust tilt/skew til its pretty right
Adjust the bow
then Amplitude so the image will fill the screen
linearity so the boxes are all the same size all over the screen
keystone so its parrallel both sides and also top and bottom
pincushion so the side and top/bottom lines are straight and level and parrallel to the center lines
If the lines get parrallel on one side but not the other or at the top but not bottom, etc etc, use the key balance and pin balance
Now fire up the red tube, and in the convergence menu, go through the same steps as above, lining the red to the green, then turn off the green and on with the blue, line the blue to the red, you can do that with green on and red off, but i reckon its easier with red on and green off, once blue is done, with all 3 tubes on it should be pretty much spot on.
If its not perfect, turn on the point convergence and use that, match red to green with blue off, then blue to red or green. Move the point cursor around with the arrows on the remote, then hold CTRL and use arrows to move the point youre on.
Its pretty easy mate, if you can do it on another brand with digital convergence, youll be right with the NEC.
Hope that helps if you do the job!!

Eddie, go for it. My travel schedule is too tight to consider a detour like that. Sounds like it would've been fun however.
Since I'm now an ex-CRT owner, any chances for me to get my hands on one are rare opportunities (and getting even rarer by the day if my wife has any say in it....)
