I have one of these beasts that works. Even after reading the (small) manual that comes with it, about all I can do is ensure that the three colors are all balanced in brightness with eath other (and set as per current profile.) Is there any book or any place online that I can learn how to use it fully?
It has functions including setting light metering and colorimetry, objective whilte-balance, and so on. It also has a chroma mode.
I'll admit most of the terminology even escapes me at this point. So I need education from the ground up.

Have you checked KonicaMinolta's website? They have downloadable docs on many of their legacy products, but I'm not sure they'd have anything on yours because of its age. BTW, I have a TV-2130, and before you start trying to use yours, you should make sure it's within calibration or you'll be going nuts.

Yes, I got a smallish manual from there. It is not helpful. It appears to self-calibrate just fine.

Unfortunately, that self-calibration is essentially the "dark cal" as done with some other sensors. It allows the meter to self adjust for the noise level in its circuits so that it doesn't skew readings. It does nothing to tell you whether it's reading accurately or not. If it's past the cal date on the most recent sticker attached to the unit, you may want to see about having it calibrated or at least check it against a known good probe like an I1 Pro.

You just want to use it as a colorimeter. Assuming it's in calibration, set it up like you would a Spyder3/HCFR. Read off the x/y coords and see how the colors compare to the desired gamma.
I have a spreadsheet somewhere that I used with my 2150 -- plots the curves, guesses gamma, etc. But nowadays you're better off to use HCFR and enter the x/y/Y info by hand, and let it do the plots & calcs.
