I understand this old pj won't work without a remote. Anyone know where I can get one?

Thanks.

Sure it will. There's a program written by a forum member that allows you to use your PC to do it. All you need is to make a control cable for it.

I do have a couple of remotes but I also have a couple pf projectors that they are attached to.

Not entirely familiar with this forum. Any hints or links to this program? I also assume it works in Winblows only?

That's the P shaped remote, right?

I think I have one lying around. I'll check.

If someone can confirm the part number for it, that'd help.

If it's what you need, I'll send it to you. PM me with your address.

You can always send a PM to someone by clicking on their user name in any of their posts. You don't have to start another post to use the PM feature.

Anyway, I looked, and I don't have a P remote or I can't find it. But I do have an AmPro wired remote which is rectangular and has a
protective cover over the lower section of the remote. (The cover is missing.) It has the usual AmPro DB-15 connector but there's
no part number sticker on it. It does have an LCD display. If there is any distinguishing information that will help to figure out if this
is the right one for a 4600, please post it. Even a photo.

I'll send him the remote if it just MIGHT be the right one.

I didn't know that. But it's been a long time since I had less than 5 posts! Very Happy

Anyway, skypuppy, you're in luck! I remembered where I'd stashed the remote from the 3600 Retro I got to salvage parts off of
just recently, and that's sure to be the right one. The only difference between a 3600 and a 4600 is the tube type.

Check the battery on the CPU bd and make sure it is good. Strange things happen if dead.

I think I failed on getting that remote. I'd left it at the place where the projector was scrapped down, and that's my fault, and they
can't find it. Neither could I.

If it does turn up I'll say so.

Aside from finding the newer style remote there is a possibility but you would have to try it. The reason the older remote wont function properly is the LCD on the older remote has 1 line readout and the newer style remote has 2 lines of readout. So if you use the older remote with 1 line the you wouldn't be able to see what is suppose to be on line 2 and wouldn't know what our doing. However, on the 4600 you can set it for onscreen display of the readouts so this may solve that problem. I am just not 100 percent sure the older remote has all the newer remote functions, but I think it does. this is the part I said you would have to try for yourself.

I just scanned my HD I thought I had that control program, NOT. I guess it was on my old PC.
If you look at the RS232 protocol for a X600 projector, It's quite simple. You could still get it running with a serial cable from your PC. here is a total of 68 commands. For instance,

for power on, you send a "[" without the quotes
for power off, you send a "]" without the quotes

There must be serial test programs on line that you could use. I also think it can be done through hyperterminal.
