At this stage i have only been setting this machine up to get an aproximate location for ceiling mounting, so i havent gone right into it, but i have done alot of reading over the past 2 or 3 years, and ive helped set up another 9PG a hand full of times with good results.

I what to clarify what i read to get the most out of this machine without wrecking the perfect tubes or something else in the process. I can make it look good, but i want to know that when i DO make it look good, im not going to risk blowing it all or causing damage.

First of all, when i went to look at my rasters, i had all the settings at mid point (except blanking for obvious reasons), point disabled, etc etc. With keystone, bow, skew and all that at mid points, double checked every single one, as in the arrows were in the middle of the bar and either read zero or fifty, i wouldve probably expected the tube faces to have reasonably square pictures, but they seemed abit bowed. More bowed than anything else, top and bottom as well as both sides. Didnt take huge amounts to correct in the setup, but i wouldnt have thought it would need that much.

Ive never moved the yoke plugs on this projector at all, ive done it before on others so i know what is involved and how to do it, but what i dont know is which way should they all be for ceiling mount to project to the front of the screen? There is no indication inside my machine that i can see, and the instruction book i have is for a PG plus, apparently they vary model to model in this respect.

Second question i have is in relation to the raster size, i read one place that says 1 inch all round, one that says 1/4 inch, one says let the test pattern touch the corners, and the other says dont let it do that. Then i see people say maximise it, but not as much cause NECs are not designed for this.

How much gap should i have top/bottom centers and side/side centers from the edges with the test pattern up? How far away from the corners should the cross hatch pattern be? Can someone post up some pictures of how a properly set up raster on an NEC 9PG should look?

When i use blanking, does this completely stop anything at all being put to that portion of the tube face? For example if i was to make a 2.35:1 aspect input, and i blank right up to just touching the bottom and top edges, nothing at all should be on the tube faces within that blanked area?

When the deflection board is closed, the red moves, that is easily compensated for with the raster centering rings, but it also happens when the lid is closed. What is the BEST way to compensate for this? I have read somewhere to use a position menu for this instead of the rings. Which is best? Its damn hard to get it spot on with the rings when they all move with covers getting shut!!

Thanks very much in advance as usual!! Smile

The "Definitive CRT Projector Setup Guide" on this site was done with an XG. It's probably a good point of reference for raster size:
