I have had some problems in the past with this board and was wondering what makes this board fit a 1209s?

That is the main Contoller board. It is the later version
You must be carefull between mixing data graphic versions of the projectors
If your projector is a BG1209s then a BG808 or 1208/s or s will work projvisted you swap the software chip

The same goes if it is a BD1209s a BD808 or BD808s will be compatible but you must swap the software chips over
