the plan was so simple...

- pop over to Curt's, buy a PJ check (XG85)
- decide on a screen and buy it check
- empty out the HT room check
- tear out the ceiling
- pull wire for the wall mounted amps
- pull wire for the AC power to the screen and the PJ and the amps and speakers
- put up new drywall
- install the mounting system for the PJ
- install the screen
- pick up the PJ from Curt and mount it with a friend on the 23rd.
- watch dvds. lots of dvds. and laserdiscs.


well, instead i spent a week sitting on my ass "researching screen placement"

that meant i hung a bed sheet from the ceiling and moved about and saw what worked and what didn't. found out that a 70" screen just infront of the speakers is going to work much better than putting the screen back a bit.

so. last night i started emptying the HT room. crap i have a lot of media. LPs, reels, dvds, LDs, more reels. CDs. took me hours just to move media.

and then came the equipment. man do i envy people who have a DVD player, an amp and speakers. instead i end up with a stack of equipment that sways back and forth like the "buck buck" pile that Bill Cosby talked about.

you: go listen to more Bill Cosby. He's worth it.

oh, and the TV got hauled upstairs for the purposes of "dead brain time".

now, here it is 3 days before i am supposed to pick up the PJ from curt and not only am i not finished and ready but i have a room that looks like thieves hit it and i haven't even finished the deconstruction part let alone started to swindle friends into putting up drywall.

are we sure this is a hobby and not a sentence of some sort?

If it's any consolation, my PJ went up on the ceiling (the first time) in mid-April, and I just barely made the September 10 deadline (start of NFL season) with a semi-acceptable picture & 7.1 sound. Fortunately, no one else in the family can see what I see: the focus issues, the convergence issues, the inconsistent intensity issues....

and I'm still sitting in an HT with a concrete floor, open ceiling joists and plain ol' drywall on the walls.....

Guys,

These pics are from a couple years ago when I was sharing a three-
bedroom house with my cousin. I took over the garage as you can see.
And despite the unfinished walls, junk everywhere, open ceiling, etc.
This was the best home theater ever. Because it was COMPLETED. All
the video & audio was hooked up and properly positioned. And I didn't
care how anything else looked.

Foam on the garage door, plus "soundboard" on the other walls.
