I have a customer in Florida that I've now sent two HVPS to over the last 6 months. Over the course of an hour, the HVPS will restart several times, making watching a frustrating experience. I haven't tested the HVPS he sent back yet, I will in about a week or so, but each HVPS I've sent him was run here for 24-48 hours and was solid as a rock.

The next step I'm getting him to do is to completely disconnect each CRT socket one at a time to see if one is triggering an HV/G2 overload, and that will also eliminate a possible short in each tube.

Any other ideas? Tse, have there ever been problems with the motherboards? I did have one HV splitter arc to ground intermittently a long time ago, but that was a very audible fault. The customer hasn't said that he hears any HV arcing when the HVPS restarts.

Thanks!

In my limited experiance with AmPro's even a static arc can set it off.
Scott did explain that circuit to me years ago but for the life of me (at my elevated age) can't remember. As I recall, even the action of crud clearing within a tube can do it.

Most likely it is the HVPS. Spellman put a very touchy, overly conservative overvoltage section in the supply. Many times the supply will shutdown during the start sequence because of it. Try adding the cap to put a very short delay in the overvoltage circuit and alot of this type of stuff will go away.
