|

I got a nice late model DTV-991 from a guy locally that had it installed professionally. ( I hope this means that no-one has messed with internal pots) It is in nice shape with a little wear on green. Came with carton and all mounting brackets and the SC-4300 controller and both setup remotes(NEC – rebadged and service remote) Price paid was $250 which I think was good.
I hooked up a laptop directly and it syncs but only the power on/off and static convergence buttons respond as if it is in lockout mode or something. The unit starts out in warmup mode with the raster way off the face of the CRT’s. The adjust button and options buttons do not bring up the menu. I also tried hardwiring the service remote to projector but same effect. Does this have something to do with the sc-4300 controller ? I cannot find a 9pin serial cable to connect the two at the moment. Is there a way to gain full control from the service remote and not the runco controller?
Also I am unable to determine what version of XG this set is.
Runco Build date is 6/2000.
The manual included says scan rate of 110kh which does not make since as an xg75 is 75kh and 85 is 85kh right? Maybe manual misprint? I have downloaded and read the manuals from Curts site (thanks Curt) but I am still not getting it. What am I missing?
Thanks guys this is my first NEC. Only had Barco’s and Sony’s up until now. Any help is appreciated. I really want to get this working as both of my Barco’s are broken. Let me know what I should be expecting or any comments/opinions at this point.
thanks again,
Nate

It's a hidden command. Press 'CTRL', hold it down and press 'DISPLAY'.
That should unlock them. THat keeps mere mortals from touching the convergence controls..
If that doesn't do it, pull the system board. There are three small pushbuttons on the board. All should be in the 'out' position. One pushed in on the board will do the same thing.

It's an XG75 or 110. To me there's no difference between the various XG models (save for the LC), Performance is the same throughout the line.

I got in Curt, thanks again.
So what you are saying that there is no performance difference between a 75/85/110?
Memory bank has listing for frequencies up-to 135khz?
Software version is 3.0
Tube hours are around 7k with only slight wear on green. Is this normal?

To me no, zero performance change between models. Like Barco, I think the changes made in the set were only in the software, to cap the H frequency range. All boards are the same between most of the models (XG852 and XG751 excepted), but I've never seen a difference in the pix between models.
As for the lack of tube wear, it just means that the set was left on a long time with no image coming out of the tubes. THat's why you can't count on hour meters as to what shape the set is in.
