|
My main problem is controlling the projector. We found this projector at school, and I was asked to get it up and running. I don't have a RC-6321 remote, so I'm going to have to use the PC control interface to configure it.
Now I have a couple questions about exactly how to use it. The PJ connects to the PC through the serial port, so I'm going to have to find a cable that goes from 9F to 15M. This is where the problem starts. Do I have to make such a cable, or would a serial cable with a 15 pin converter at the end suffice? Or could I buy it somewhere?
Thanks a bunch to anyone that can help me.

I think you need the cable, or I have one spare remote for $125 incl shipping.
DO NOT use a USB to serial converter, almost none of them work properly. Get a laptop or a desktop with a 9 pin output and whip the cable together. THe manuals on the main site should have the pinouts, although I've never built or used one before via PC.

I have built the cable and used the software for the PG model. For the XG model you have to check your serial number to see if the software is compatible.
Of course I dont know what an XG75 is..... I never heard of one......

Would I be able to use a serial cable with a 15 pin converter on the end of it? And I think the serial number is... missing on the PJ. It should be on the label on the bottom right corner of the back, correct?

I'm not sure if you mistyped and meant 15 pin connector, but converter...... probably not.... but I cant say for sure. I just used an old printer cable and cut one end off and wired up the other connector. Edit, no wait. Printer cable is wrong I think. I think I just bought a 15 pin connector from Radio Shack or something.
I still dont know what an XG75 is. Can you fill me in.....

LOL. Now there's something Curt should correct. There is no such thing as an XG75. I have been kidding with you.
There is an XG750 and an XG751 which many use the XG75 reference to, but these 2 machines are completely different. So the correct model number MUST be used when seeking information on either one.
Sooooooooo.... do you have an XG750 or an XG751?

i used a usb to rs232 cable on a satdecoder and it worked fine.
it came with a little disk with the driver on it, i dont see why it wouldnt work on a pj.
besides, its cheap and easy so why dont try it.

If your laptop has a docking station, most of the time it will have a serial port. I believe your only other option is the USB to serial converter but Curt is right in that they don't all work the same.

In case you are still looking for this PC to NEC cable, I believe the only way is to make one yourself. Probably the easiest way would be to buy connectors like these at this link and follow the pinout shown in the link in Curt's site. For the wire you can use a length of Ethernet cable commonly sold at most home improvement stores. Just be sure you get the correct gender for each plug. The PC end (9 pin) will be female and I think the 15pin end is male (plugs into the 15 pin REMOTE connector on the XG)
