I fired up my 2 other pjs the other day. One didn't power up and the other was code fd. As soon as I press the power on it stays on for a few seconds then it turns off and then I get the fault code. [/quote]

HV fault.

Is a tube broken?

Are all the leads plugged into the HV board? I had an intermittent fd error which was caused by a ribbon cable under too much tension from a cable tie.

Is it arcing?

I don't think the tubes are broken. Pj is not arching either. I will check the connections to see if anything is loose or too tight.

update!!!
i gfired up one of 991's today and got the fd failure again. I had decided to take a look at the tubes to check for breakage. the tubes are in imaculate condition but did find a piece of glass when i took off the red lens. there is no signs of fluid leakage or cracks across the tube faces. the person who had this pj before i bought it must have taken well care of it as the tubes are very good. the green has very little burn in. i would rate it an 8. what should i do now?

TV/Projector: All of them!

It can be a bad power supply, HV board or H deflection board, or even a bad focus board. I can check them in a working set here if you want to send them up.

I switched out the hv board from my working xg and still the same result. Should I switch out the other boards as well. The xg works just fine but the 991 tubes are in pristine condition. I still have a second 991 to tear into also.
