My Vidikron VPF 50 HD came with a DS1230y-150 Dallas chip... I was having some weird issues... stuff not saving, mainly... menus acting oddly
well I had a spare but it was a DS1235y-150
now I know everyone swears that they are not compatible...
but it turns out that they are...
the only difference is that the DS1230y-150 is rated for 10 years of battery and the 1235 is rated for only 5 years...
I know a few people say it will not work but my guess is its an isolated case

That's cool it actually does work without any issue. I bought a replacement chip a few months back for my 4500 and it did absolutely nothing. It was made about a year ago but I still get the odd menu glitches, 'Ready to Reset' still pops up at times when pushing random buttons or converging. It's not the remote as the same thing occurred on my other 4500 and my fathers 4501. I assume it's supposed to help with drifting convergence as well... haven't really noticed much on that either but then again I'm picky.

mine does the ready to reset things as well... I have heard that its actually done to make you take note of where you are in the process... but I doubt it... mine was built in 1997... perhaps its a later model thing?
