If the derfla case was available in a solid color plastic lets say black, and had a slight texture (like found on the mouse you are holding in your hand) but would be the same case that I offer on my site, Just more affordable to more people.

$200 would be an incredible price.

But I think you really need to get one out to a beta buyer... then let them post a before and after pic in a finished HT for you to use in your website.

You need some feedback from other people on how well it attaches, how well the seams align, and how good the finish and paint are, etc.

If I had a Marquee on my ceiling I'd buy one and volunteer.

I do not want to invest in making a set of textured silicon molds (400.00 or so) the plastic material another 200.00 or so and all te time involved $???.??, and not have anyone interested. as for the fit these are the same molds that made the vision 1 and 2. the fit will be the same as those.

shoot for 2 bones I'd get 2, it would definitely be a killer price point. but if its gonna hurt you time and materials wise I'd rather see people save up for fiberglass case. (well thats what I'm doing)

I had only thought of buying 1 case for my 9500, but if you did offer the plastic cases I'd also get the 8500 new clothes.

I look at it this way: The market for any dress-up cases is limited. And people who do want them will PROBABLY pay the reasonable prices for the fiberglas cases.

Why dilute your market?

Just because you CAN make a new version, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

I'm trying to see this from a business perspective. I'd rather sell a dozen items that make me 300 bucks each than two dozen that make me just 100 each.

thats just it chris, I can make more out of plastic than I can from all the time it takes to finish fiber. plastic would be applyed, demold, trim, drill, fit and box.

For fiber it takes five layers in the mold, trim, drill, fit, smooth out (at least three steps), prime, prep for paint, paint, color sand, polish, let cure some before it can be packed and boxed. with allot of cure time for most steps. I can only make/sell one a week out of fiber.

for plastic I could make one a day if needed (I know there is not that much of a market) out of plastic for close to the same profit with less work. I don't think I would hurt myself, some people would only want the look of paint compared to a satin finish of plastic. For 200.00 bucks More people could afford a plastic one.

A $200 price is a joke. Practically free in my mind.

I'm with Clarence: While your new pics of the blue paint job are good, it still leaves the user to have to 'imagine' what they'd look like on their own PJ before and after. Get rid of the messy background, and things like the little bottle holding up the case. Instead, put your new shiny case on an actual PJ and take some before and after pics. Drape a white sheet or something similar on the floor under it and up onto the wall so that the eye's not distracted by other things.

People will buy them in droves.

Kal

What hell, 200.00 is not a joke to me. you are correct Kal pictures are not that good to much clutter. I will take some new ones when I get time.

Thanks for the input

I'd buy a $200 plastic one before I buy a $600 fiberglass one.

I mean it's not like it has to be super durable. The thing goes on my ceiling and doesn't get touched again until it's time to upgrade.

But then plastic may not be a good idea for the guy who is going to be constantly putting the covers on and taking them off again to tweak/adjust. I'm assuming the plastic will break easier than a fiberglass case. Any other negatives to plastic?

Btw, for the $600 fiberglass case, I was going to wait a few months or so till I purchased. But if you put out a $200 plastic case then I'll probably be one of your first buyers. Smile

Your points are good ones. What it makes me think is that maybe your suggested price for plastic cases is TOO LOW. There will always be those who think that ANY price is higher than they WANT to pay, but the key is to try to find the price point at which everyone who would REALLY like a case set is WILLING to buy at. Or ALMOST
everyone, anyway.

For all intents and purposes, this market is now entirely yours. You can set your prices as you want to, WITHOUT competition.

I would suggest that you even offer some version of these cases to VDC in Florida.
There just MIGHT be enough retail customer interest in a better looking case set that
they might go for it. If they do, price them into the sky!

I'm just really glad that I got this ball rolling even though there was a course change
before much time had passed. The stacks of case parts piling up in your shop
is a sight that pleases me greatly. Success in a project, at last! Success of a sort, anyway.

FWIW, I feel that $200 is a little low, maybe $275 - $325. I'd be very comfortable with that price for a plastic case.

Like Eddie said these are more decorative than structural in my eyes.
If the plastic case would be easier on you then why not go for it.

Would there also be color options in plastic ?

Thats 11 plastic cases sold so far (9 votes for yes). Assuming you aquired a $50 deposit from each client, you're at $550 for expenses to produce the plastics.

My Marquee awaits your progress.... Smile

Btw, I was just thinking.

While I don't consider the Marquee to be ugly, I simply feel that it is not "gorgeous". Or even "pretty", like the G90 or 1209.
But then I'm not all about the looks. I'm more into performance. And had you (or anyone else) not started the whole aftermarket case thing... I would have preferred to remove my casings and have them painted by a professional which would have cost me $150 for a cheap job, up to $600 for a very nice & durable job. Would have been black, of course.

So I look at a $200 black plastic case as the perfect alternative to messing around with having my case painted and having to worry about the paint eventually getting scratched or flaking off, exposing the dull bone color underneath. As well, I've noticed that people who paint their cases tend to get less for their projectors when they turn around to sell it. Whereas with black painted case, you could store your original case in the attic and put it back on when it's time to sell the projector, and simply offer the black aftermarket case as an "option".

The aftermarket black case would look gorgeous, be less of a hassle, cheaper than painting (properly) and be much quicker/easier to deal with than painting my case black.

Where do I send my money? Smile

Seen as you were going to sell them for $200 and now everyone has offered that price as a bargain, Why not reward people who have encouraged you.
Anyone who has offered you $200 so far, let them have it for $100, if they let you take pics for marketing purposes. Then sell any future ones for $275. You'd make a killing and would have plenty of pics to advertise with.

Genius or what. 8)

Btw, how about a few quid commission from all the discounts,,, lol

I would think that the sooner you switch to plastic the happier you will be with undertaking this project.

Very impressed with the progress you have made so far.
