I saw it with two hours left and no bids but I lost track of it. It struck me as peculiar given that the first time it was listed there were some 30 bids and the winning bid was almost $1500.

Wow, and a 2,000 hour machine would have sold for $500. So that's an additional $750 FOR %18 more tube life! Very Happy

Staunton's right off I-81, only a couple of hours south of me. If they buyer also wants to pick up a couple of complete spares (but with toasty tubes), LMK.

I think if one gets over $1k for an 8" pj then they should take the money and run. Personally, I think it is just easier to stand pat (unless a 9" falls into your lap) until you make the move to digital.

I ended up buying it. I was outbid the last time by someone that couldn't pay the shipping and ended up getting it for $200 less the second time around. I am upgrading from a BG800 that I bought from Curt a few years ago. Not too familiar with the G70, but I hope this will be a good projector to take me to the end of my crt era.

Congratulations. You will love the G70, it's a fantastic design.

2000 hours is about 60 to 70% through a set of tubes.

Sure, someone here will pipe up with 4000 hour tubes in good knick - that is a rare exception.

But everytime I see a G70 for sale with 3000+ hours for sale, odds on, the tubes are toast.

(Same goes for an XG guys, so don't think I'm picking on the G70 specifically).

Actually, I see your point. The default settings on the G70 are ridiculously high. I got a 900hr machine that was already showing a slight wear pattern on the green tube. It took me three weeks to notice it but once I did there was no going back. I swapped the tube in short order.

I had to replace a green tube with 800hrs due to mild burn on my G90. The unit hadn't been calibrated and left on default bias and gain settings. May have been really bright but 800hrs for a tube is ridiculous. Although mild once you know its there its hard to overlook as whites had a slight mauve hue. Luckily I was credited the replacement tube amount as the pj had been described as pristine.
