I just spent 45 minutes typing a set of instructions in the AmPro PJ thread and clicked on the submit button

GONE.....CONNECTION FAILED....OFF into cyberspace.
Total waste of MFT...AND...it's not the first time this has happened on this site. Evil or Very Mad

That sucks. That's happened to me too Chip, although I can't/wouldn't specifically blame the site itself. It could be the internet connection, the browser, the server, the operating system, a plug-in... There's a lot that can go wrong.

Not that it's any consolation for you now, but whenever I know I'm going to put any serious amount of time into a large post, I write it offline so I can save it, and then I copy/paste it into the post. Of course, the only reason I do that is because I've been burned a couple of times just like you.

I don't know how the text boxes that go into web pages like this one work, but I have wondered many times if there's some reason other than pure stupid laziness why the contents thereof are not preserved in the (not unlikely) event that a submission fails?

And I've burned just like you Chip, and just as pissed. There's really no excuse for it.

To have a text box that you type your name or a search string or whatever into is one thing. But having an Advanced mode with the ability to enter and carefully format mass quantities of text and NOT provide some mechanism for preserving it in the event of a problem is sheer lunacy.

"Open the pod bay doors, Hal." Aren't our computers just too, too advanced in the year 2010? Evil or Very Mad Not so much. Thumbs Down

The server was unresponsive last night for about an hour as well. Kept timing out, like a DOS attack was going on

When I write a long post I just highlight and copy it. If something happens, then I just paste it.

Had that happen a couple of times and I copy and paste the text at the end then I expect it to dissapear and paste it back again, very annoying though.

As for the G90 ampro comments, thanks I like my AmPro 4600 especially for the $50 odd I got it for and the spare red and blue vs a G90 which I am sure is wonderful, until it isnt..........................................Sony sucks and I know I said this a long time ago but that was a flagship peice of equipment when a Rolls royce breaks down its sent back and there is no question of "spare parts" at least there never used to be but hey its not like one unhappy customer will put his G90 on the internet complain about a specific chip to a mass of forum users who know mass loads of other users and are Trend Setters ( yes gentlemen thats what you are!) which then damages Sonys rep, nope its not like anything like that will happen because Sony is so huge it just wont matter right, until it does...............................ask a few car companies about that. On a good note Magyver said there does not seem to be much more of these chips going wrong, correct?

speaking of chips, cut and paste sir saves a lot of pain.

Thats a killer and I hate doing anything twice so try this if you intend uploading anything of reasonable length consider opening your word processor and typing up what you want and saving the document on your computer you then copy and paste (windows users) to the site. If the site crashes then its only a few seconds to recopy and paste the information.

I get that all the time. I don't know why, but if I hit refresh the page comes up immediately. 'Sometimes' I am lucky and when I hit the refresh button on the browser it'll prompt me to Resend the information contained in the form.

Whenever I prepare long responses I usually either type them in Word, or copy all of the response before hitting the submit button so that I at least have the response saved to the clipboard Smile

My email does that randomly. Fortunately it does an auto save to the DRAFTS folder once in a while. SO when you hit send and it turns to vapour you at least have some of it.

I've had FireFox save everything I was typing after it crashed and then restored. I was surprised, perhaps a fluke. Not sure if it has the same functionality in a time out issue and being able to press back. Confused

No, I don't think it does.

I do seem to notice a lot more dropouts/timeouts on this site than on any other site. Or maybe it's just because I hit this site so much more often than any other site. Smile
