Guys!

What is the difference between those stamped X on the end and those stamped K?

AFAIK no difference. the stampings are there to allow the cap to blow out upward if it fails. As opposed to bursting sideways and taking out parts around it.

Those codes always mean something. I assume you are talking Rubycon, but every manufacturer has their own codes. To take a stock Rubycon for example, a random one I have that I removed has markings CE W on it. This is the lead cutting and spacing code. For the technician, they mean nothing. They are for the board designer for design spec and manufacturing, so they know how much lead to cut for installation on the circuit board.

I'm trying to find an older spec that would cover Rubycons on a Marquee.

CE means it's a straight lead, no kinks or bends from the factory. W is the length, but isn't on the latest Rubycon spec.

I don't think tim's asking about codes, he's asking about the crimped "lid" on the top of the cap. Rubycons are stamped with a K and Others like Nichicon with an X. In either case these are crimped to weaken the sheet-metal and allow the cap to swell/burst open if needed.
