I just wanted to thank all the guys on the forum who have helped me out and pointed me into a good direction with my Sony 1270Q. After countless hours of reading and learning, and then more countless hours of tweaking and testing......I'm happy to say:
I LOVE THE PICTURE!!!
Yes, I do. Good enough, to where the wife is willing to let me go forward and make some upgrades. For the last month or so, she was strict on her words "if you can't get it to look good with just a normal DVD, why bother?"
Well, I did and now she is curious about what blu-ray will now look like.... Razz
Working with the DVE DVD I was able to get the color, convergence, and focus all into a place. It makes me happy to know I did this all on my own. Mind you I'm still using the S-video 480i. It's not even a progressive output player. So, now I'm confident to tell the better half that I CAN make it better, much better....
So, I've got the OK now to get upgrade up to 1080i...
I'm not sure where to start just yet, but I think I'm gonna take up some of the offers that I've been given by Curt and other members. I feel it will be a good start for me with what they have offered.

Here's what I'm looking for in the end result:
Blu-ray playback
Upscale normal DVD's
and something to make my old Nintendo and Super Nintendo look good (me and the wife are old gamers of the past and still play on the old consoles).
Other than that, I'm happy.

and that fact that I have an extra Sony 1270Q with a set of clean tubes makes me know I'm in for a couple of good years worth of entertainment! Laughing

Any suggestions on where to start? and HDFury1? 2? or 3? or maybe the Moome External?
Curt, is the transcoder you offered a good way to start off, or should I just rely on the upscale of the DVD player using HDMI?

Again, thanks to all of you that have helped me! Thumbs Up You guys are great!

HDFury1 (with power supply if you get a stand alone DVD player without if you get a PS3 )
Bluray player or PS3
Line doubler or scaler to upscale the old console stuff
second RGBHV input card to connect the doubler/scaler to IFB-11 or IFB-12 RGBHV card

I use the hdfury1 at the projector fed by several sources thru a powered hdmi matrix switch like this:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10110&cs_id=1011002&p_id=5312&seq=1&format=2

This allows me to have four hdmi sources, one of which is a Samsung SIR-T165 ATSC tuner that also upscales the component inputs and outputs over dvi so I use a dvi to hdmi cable.
Be sure to use good quality hdmi cables and keep the length to a minimum.
