I've got a replacement blue for my 1292 which came without glycol. I purchased some from Curt and set about filling her up, there was *some* glycol left swilling around in the chamber. Curt said I needed about 1 bottle (500ml) and a bit more.

After a bottle and a bit I re-secured the screw and looked at the tube face which still had an air pocket at the top, so I filled it with the rest, all in all I'd say I put about 700ml in total.

EDIT: I had the tube upside down, turning the right way up there is still an air bubble right at the top of the chamber, but the tube is completely submerged, and the top of the lens is about level.

Is this enough for the chamber, or did I overfill it?

Many thanks in advance,
Brad.

Sounds OK but I've never seen a 1292 LC assembly...

i used 75 % ethylene glycol and 25 % glycerol.
someone advised this to me on the avs forum, it probably has something to do with the refractive index.

No, it has something to do with corrosion.

It neutralises the glycol, which will corrode the aluminium housing otherwise.

Marquees are shockers for this, but the 1292, with stock coolant, is ok.

Wouldn't you just use straight TV coolant? It already has the mix built in, and it's pretty cheap.

I think there are hazardous materials restrictions on the import/export of this stuff.

This is sold in the US and shipped VIA ground shipping.

The glycerin does change the refractive index but glycol is also corrosive...

It is my recollection, from when we looked into this years ago, that the RI's were pretty close to identical.

How different is glycerin to glycol?

The refractive index for glycerin.

The refractive index of glycol.

Yep pretty close. Plus you mix it together.

Seems like I've also heard the glycerin reduces water absorption into the glycol but I'm not a chemist......

i must say that when i mixed the stuff the liquid became clearer.
300ml e-glycol 100ml glycerol.
this topic should be a sticky cause for people who cant get their hands on the already mixed tv coolant might end up with just using e-glycol.
i almost made this mistake, but like i said someone on the avs forum pointed this out to me after asking how much glycol was needed.
he told me to use a mix anything between 80-20 and 70-30.
a lot of people keep talking about glycol alone and thats when errors are made when someone new to crt (like me) read posts on the forum and go on filling the chambers without the glycerol.

You can fill 1292 tube full, because it have expansion tank with rubber bellow for expansion. It's similar bellow that G90 tube have in below picture.

Just make sure that bellow is pushed in when filling, so it have room for maximum expansion.

A while ago I bought about 12 x500ml bottles of MG chemicals 803 projection tube coolent here in Oz due to the Oz supplier dropping the product line.

MG dont provide the Refractive index for this product but when I contacted them, they stated that they possibly could acquire it if nessasary...

The Blend ratio % is 80/20...

Cheers...

Hello,

I will be needing glycol for a set of P19LCB03s soon. Does anybody know of a supplier in Europe? Preferably within the EU...

Regards,

Gerbrand
