Life (narrated by David Attenborough) [Blu-ray]

The Natural History Unit's follow-up to 'Planet Earth' is planned for a Blu-ray release in June.

BBC/Warner will be releasing 'Life' Blu-ray on June 1.

From the award-winning BBC Natural History Unit, makers of Planet Earth and The Blue Planet: Seas of Life, this is the original UK broadcast version of Life, with narration by renowned naturalist David Attenborough and music by Oscar® and Emmy® winning composer George Fenton In Planet Earth, we brought you the world as you’ve never seen it before. Now, get closer with Life. Four years in the making, filmed over 3000 days, across every continent and in every habitat, with breathtaking new high definition filming techniques developed since Planet Earth, Life presents 130 incredible stories from the frontiers of the natural world, 54 of which have never been filmed before. Packed with excitement, revelation and entertainment, this remarkable 10-part blockbuster captures unprecedented, astonishingly beautiful sequences and demonstrates the spectacular and extraordinary tactics animals and plants have developed to survive and thrive.
Release date: June 1, 2010

Note: There are 2 versions of this documentatary available: The original narrated by the renowned naturalist David Attenborough (from the UK), and a US version narrated by none other than Oprah Winfrey. I guess the BBC thinks Americans are too stupid to understand an English (UK) accent? Gimme a break! The link here goes the original David Attenborough version.

The link here goes the original David Attenborough version. Recommended. This did something similar when the Planet Earth series was released a few years back: The original Attenborough version was offered and then an Americanized version narrated by Sigourney Weaver. They also changed some wording around (like using 'Flashlight' instead of 'Torch') because god knows the rest of the world's too stupid understand any form of English that isn't American English. Rolling Eyes (C'mon BBC! I don't think Americans are that dense!) Smile

I would think using a torch would be a dangerous fire hazard and scare the animals away.

I was OK with Sigourney Weaver narrating Planet Earth. But OPRAH WINFREY?!?!?! Shocked Who the HELL came up with that idea? Thumbs Down

My son and I have been watching Life on the Discovery channel in SD. It's been OK. Though, I don't know that I can spring for another box set of similar material.

Supposedly Oprah asked... she was very interested. I guess they couldn't say no. I've pre-ordered the original original David Attenborough version myself. He was great on Planet Earth.

I'll second David Attenborough as a narrator.

I liked his version of Planet Earth also

1 - I just don't she has the right voice for this type of work.
2 - I'm just not a fan of Oprah

Plus every time I hear her speak, I see Tom Cruise jumping on her couch professing his love for whoever that was.

I agree the quality of the series demanded a more serious narrative track. Does anyone know if the script is the same for both versions? Felt like it was being dumbed down for the audience..... I lost track of the number of times I cringed at some of the banal comments and statements during many awe-inspiring scenes. Ruined the experience IMO.
I grew up listening to Richard Attenborough narrate nature programs so I probably a bit biased.

People should re-dub their own narrations in various styles... "Da-yumn! That ******* a TALL-ass waterfall! Keepin' it real wif da FLOW!"

Life (narrated by David Attenborough) [Blu-ray]

Update: I've been watching an episode of Life every night for the last week or so and I have to say it's every bit as good Planet Earth. In fact, I'm not sure why but I think I'm enjoying it more than Planet Earth. The quality seems better. Maybe because it's more recent. Not only does it look fantastic but the subject matter is just plain fascinating. Three thumbs up!
